2 of them were, the other was the training polo. And the hoody I bought wasn't cheap, but I'm a big hoody guy. Lots of Reds hoodies. That's another reason to root on Liverpool, same name as my favorite baseball team!

Mata? Januzaj? De Gea? Wellbeck? Phil Jones? Rafael? That's hardly a championship core. Everyone else strikes me as old or expendable. They need some radical upgrades. Seems like the war room guys wanted to give this squad one more shot in 2013-14 when they should have been after players like Ozil, Thiago, Marquinhos and Garay.
Good points. From what I can tell, most Man U fans want Moyes gone yesterday. But they're just self-aware enough to realize that calling for a sacking in a manager's first season is the kind of thing they used to mock in other clubs, which is why they're trying to hold their tongues. Still. Without Ferguson's mystique, they're just another big club with a checkbook and a short fuse. They'll still win plenty but it'll never be like it was.

Or, to borrow a phrase I read elsewhere directed at Man U fans, "welcome to your post-Bear Bryant years."

Chelsea v. Galatasaray in the Champions league at 3:45 today.

Let's see if they can take some of the bad taste out of everyone's mouth after the dismal showing against Villa.

Why do you think I ended up rooting for them? You going to any of the games in the U.S this summer?

Arsenal is down 3-0 and down to 10 men at the Bridge (although the ref sent off the incorrect player) just 17 minutes in. Just a disastrous start for the Gunners.

So much for Arsenal doing Liverpool a favor. I was kind of hoping for a draw.

And there's the fourth goal before halftime.

Really happy I didn't wake up for that disaster. Hopefully we won't blow the FA cup and salvage something from this season.

Top three teams all finding the net frequently today. 6 each for Chelsea and Liverpool and last I saw City had 5. I think the title race is going down to the wire.

I don't think they were prepared for Chelsea to press so heavily in the early stages. Arsenal turned the ball over far too easily in the midfield and it led to some really easy chances for Chelsea.

Hopefully Arsenal can take out their frustration on Man City next weekend and do the Blues another solid.

I think we all need to pull for Liverpool down the stretch. We all know what happened to our Reds the last time they won the league.

I was watching a little bit of the Arsenal Chelsea disaster. They were talking about how it was Wegner's 1000th game but his last trophy came about 500 games ago. Before I started following the EPL more in depth, Arsenal was one of those clubs that had international appeal. In the EPL they probably rank behind Man U and Chelsea in international appeal. If you mention Arsenal to a casual sports fan they will probably be able to tell you they are a soccer team in the EPL. How is it they have gone so long without willing anything? Where is the star power? How has Wegner stayed at the helm with such lackluster results? Is Wegner the Marvin Lewis of the EPL?

I'd say he's more like the Bill Belichick of the EPL and Bill Belichick hasn't won anything since 2004. Maybe if Marvin Lewis wins a coulpe playoff games let alone multiple titles he can join the conversation. Winning major sports trophies is hard and the economics of soccer and the EPL have changed quite a bit in the past decade. Arsenal have been very close a few times since 2005, but haven't been able to get over the hump. It's been frustraing and at times painful, but at least they are in the mix.

In terms of star power, Wegner has never been the guy to splash big money at stars. He would much rather develop young talent or bring in guys who fit his system. The Ozil signing was probably the first time he went after and got a "name" signing. If he could have found another striker they probably would have won the trophy this year.

It seems like a long time, but they were a powerhouse in the 90s -- won a couple of PL titles and a couple of FA cup titles. They also won the PL in '04 without losing a single match.

Add in the fact that they're a London-based side that has, historically, never lacked for major international talent (even during their "down" period in the late-2000s they still had Van Persie and Ashley Cole suiting up for them, among others) and I don't think it's terrible difficult to see why they've got such a large international appeal.

As for the drought, it's also a matter of other teams rising up around them and spending BOATLOADS of cash (see: City, Manchester) -- which it's taken Arsenal a little while to adjust to. As BR said -- Ozil is really their first major singing in quite some time under Wegner.

I saw just a bit of the Derby today but I think M2 nailed it above. They'll probably dump Moyes just out of principle, but they need a major overhaul with or without him. They looked slow and very average. Admittedly, they were minus Van Persie and Januzaj, but in the middle eight between Rooney/Van Persie/De Gea, I have a hard time seeing any of those guys starting for any of the top three right now.
