Joe Morgan wants Pete in the Hall

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...-fame/2646551/

I have been arguing this idea for a while. If PED users are on the ballot, why can't Pete be on it?

Glad to see Joe supporting him though!

Becuase Pete agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball and the HOF long ago. Becuase players have been told since they were drafted that if they bet on baseball they would be banned for life.

Wrong. Pete never agreed to a lifetime ban from the HOF. At the time he agreed to a lifetime ban from MLB, he explicitly had the right to apply for reinstatement after one year.

More importantly, at the time reached his deal with the commissioner's office, a ban from MLB did not make a player ineligible for the HOF. The HOF changed the rules right after Pete agreed to his deal.

Pete dug this hole he is in. If he woulda fessed up early instead of waiting all this time to do it, he would probly be in baseball right now! The when he did fess up it was only to profit on it for his book, if it wasn't for that book you honestly think he was going to fess up? I don't. Then still hanging around the casinos and stuff, to me is clueless. yeah, he can have whatever lifestyle he wants, but if I wanted to be back in baseball, I sure as hell woulda stoped hanging around those places. All this is just my opinion tho!

It doesn't matter what Pete agreed to. Bud Selig has a grudge against him, in large part because he blames him for his friend Bart Giamatti's death. Bud rules with an iron fist when he wants to and as long as Bud is in office, Pete will not get reinstatement.

I had always heard it was Fay Vincent who held the grudge against Rose and he lobbied the Hall of Fame to change its rules.

That said, does it really matter anymore? If Pete needs the Hall of Fame recognition to be complete, he's likely never going to fill that hole. The Hall of Fame still stands with or without Pete. Pete's accomplishments are mentioned throughout the museum, so it's not like they've tried to whitewash over his career.

Regardless the equating of betting to PED's is completely useless. You can argue back and forth over which one is worse for the game, which one is more damaging to one's integrity. But one is not the other, and there's no reason why the penalty for one has to equal the penalty for another.

If Pete can't get in then none of these junkies should be allowed in.

The simple and most likely solution is wait until Rose dies and then put him in.

I really believe that's what will happen. Pete has too many enemies out there don't want to see him get the glory of finally being inducted to the HOF. They also don't want to see him profit by it. I would say within 5 to 10 years after his death you will see Pete go into the HOF but not until then.

    Pete was wrong.
    Bart was wrong.
    Bud is wrong.

If we must continue to dwell on Pete's gambling...fine. Put him in the Hall as a player, and exclude him as a manager, since that's when he was caught.
"And why do false truths persist, getting passed down the decades as if they were fact? It comes back to the same point: People believe things that are wrong because, individually, people rarely investigate their own beliefs, particularly when what they believe makes sense intuitively. Even more so when those around them agree with them." -K.F.

Re: Joe Morgan wants Pete in the Hall

Pete Rose's actions after he was banned from baseball are the reasons why he is not in the HOF. Pete's steadfast denial over a decade is a large reason why he is not in the HOF. Pete's association with Las Vegas, casinos, racetracks, etc. is a large reason why he is not in the HOF. Pete's signing of baseball's "I am sorry I bet on baseball, Pete Rose, is a reason why he is not in the HOF.

Nothing that Pete did was illegal, but if he truly wanted to be in the Hall he wouldn't have made a mockery of the debate for 20+ years now.

What does how he sign a baseball have to do with him being if the HOF? The lengths reds fans go to beat down Pete Rose just plain baffles me.

The prices he can charge for that HOF at the end of his name would make him a nice chunk of change! Reds fans don't have to go to much lengths to beat down Pete, he gave us many a reasons!!!

Baseball does not have to allow Pete in the HOF. He isn't going in front of a judge who can say yes or now. Pete's path to the HOF is through baseball and Selig. If he truly wants in he shouldn't make a mockery of the situation. He shouldn't associate himself with casino's. He is doing nothing illegal, but his actions aren't helping the situation.

I see the exact opposite thing. Pete embarrasses this city often yet Reds fans still accept him with open arms.
