Joe Morgan wants Pete in the Hall

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...-fame/2646551/

I have been arguing this idea for a while. If PED users are on the ballot, why can't Pete be on it?

Glad to see Joe supporting him though!

Becuase Pete agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball and the HOF long ago. Becuase players have been told since they were drafted that if they bet on baseball they would be banned for life.

Wrong. Pete never agreed to a lifetime ban from the HOF. At the time he agreed to a lifetime ban from MLB, he explicitly had the right to apply for reinstatement after one year.

More importantly, at the time reached his deal with the commissioner's office, a ban from MLB did not make a player ineligible for the HOF. The HOF changed the rules right after Pete agreed to his deal.

Pete dug this hole he is in. If he woulda fessed up early instead of waiting all this time to do it, he would probly be in baseball right now! The when he did fess up it was only to profit on it for his book, if it wasn't for that book you honestly think he was going to fess up? I don't. Then still hanging around the casinos and stuff, to me is clueless. yeah, he can have whatever lifestyle he wants, but if I wanted to be back in baseball, I sure as hell woulda stoped hanging around those places. All this is just my opinion tho!

It doesn't matter what Pete agreed to. Bud Selig has a grudge against him, in large part because he blames him for his friend Bart Giamatti's death. Bud rules with an iron fist when he wants to and as long as Bud is in office, Pete will not get reinstatement.

The simple and most likely solution is wait until Rose dies and then put him in.

    Pete was wrong.
    Bart was wrong.
    Bud is wrong.

If we must continue to dwell on Pete's gambling...fine. Put him in the Hall as a player, and exclude him as a manager, since that's when he was caught.

Re: Joe Morgan wants Pete in the Hall

Pete Rose's actions after he was banned from baseball are the reasons why he is not in the HOF. Pete's steadfast denial over a decade is a large reason why he is not in the HOF. Pete's association with Las Vegas, casinos, racetracks, etc. is a large reason why he is not in the HOF. Pete's signing of baseball's "I am sorry I bet on baseball, Pete Rose, is a reason why he is not in the HOF.

Nothing that Pete did was illegal, but if he truly wanted to be in the Hall he wouldn't have made a mockery of the debate for 20+ years now.

Well, if Joe Morgan and Dick Vitale think Pete should be in, who are we to argue?

Pete Rose is a dispicable human being, and that is likely the major reason why he'll never get in the HOF until he dies.

He only wants to get into the HOF so he can profit from it anyway.

If he truly was remorseful over what he had done, and was a well liked person, on and off the field, he'd probably be in the HOF now.

What does how he sign a baseball have to do with him being if the HOF? The lengths reds fans go to beat down Pete Rose just plain baffles me.

Pete Rose bet on baseball and then lied to you for however many years about it. He also went to jail for tax evasion.

You don't have to go to very many lengths to "beat down" Pete Rose. Great player, liar, and all around bad guy.

Re: Joe Morgan wants Pete in the Hall

I'm probably one of the sole Reds fans who just doesn't care either way. He was a great player, but he was idiot. He gets in, great, he is the hit king after all. He doesn't, that's fine, he bet on baseball and rightfully lost everything. I just don't spend much time thinking about Pete.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

pete rose off field actions shouldn´t be model for the youth, but I´m sure there are plenty *******s in the HOF. His off field issue´s shouldn´t be the reason that he´s not in the HOF
