Okay, just kidding on that. But he might be back in relief!

Doesn't give me a lot of hope to read this."I'm optimistic, only because I'm an optimist," Price said.

I know they won't do this (because no MLB team would), but it would be interesting if Cueto was back in September to simply have him relieve Cingrani every five days. Let Cingrani pitch the first five innings, then Cueto go two or three, then go to the rest of the pen for whatever is left in the game. It would be a way to ease Cueto back while keeping Cingrani's innings down. You could even flip the two if Cueto was able to build up his innings through this method.

I think Johnny's days of being an effective top of the rotation pitcher could very well be over.
Maybe getting a head start on a move to the pen as a middle reliever isn't such a bad idea.

This isn't the worst idea I've ever heard.
Odds of him coming back into the rotation this year is minimal (if not zero). If the situation as it stands today is Cueto is either done for the season, or Cueto can be used minimally in reliever spots, then why wouldn't they try that?
It's a strained lat, not a shoulder injury. Cueto will recover. The Reds just need to give him time and not rush him back.

He's not going to except being a middle reliever for the long run -- and if your arm isn't hurt you can come back.
I love RiverRays Idea.
If Cueto is done, it would literally be the first time in history that a career was destroyed by a strained latissimus dorsi muscle... Can't say I'm worried at all. The Reds and Cueto simply need to focus on continuing to strengthen that area and not rush him back. There's no need at this point.

How did we get from a strained lat to Cueto's career as a starter is done? What did I miss?

Take a rotation Ace and turn him into a middle reliever over a sore Lat. April fool, Oh wait, its August.
