I think Brantley and Franco were both better than Graves. But Danny was good and put in more time with the club. Kinda hard to pick either of those two over the all-time leader in their department.

In many ways, I feel like that's the club leader in "being ahead by 1-3 runs going to the ninth inning." Whole concept of saves, especially in last 20 years, is pretty overblown.

I just remember John Franco being flat-out filthy around 1987-88. My memories of a typical Graves save were: scalding line drive out; walk; hit; K; warning track fly ball.

After thinking it through, I probably made a bad choice.

    ERA as Reds:

    Franco 2.49 (6 season)

    Brantley 2.64 (4 seasons)

    Graves 3.94 (9 seasons)

I'm sorry, but any Hall that features Danny Graves isn't a Hall of Fame.

I liked Danny, but that ERA just won't work. Hall of the mediocre? Nope.

I voted for Junior Griffey. Even though his time in Cincinnati was disappointing, I still enjoyed seeing him play when he was healthy.

Re: My Reds HOF vote went to....

For me, it came down to Reggie Sanders vs. Griffey.

    I went with Reggie Sanders.

Griffey played roughly an extra season than Sanders, but offensively they were very similar players, so much so that it's pretty close to a wash in my mind. Sanders probably offered a bit more defensive value than Griffey, but that's partly due to the fact that the Reds had Sanders in his 20s while they had Griffey in his latter years when his defense was declining. Griffey's awful defensive center field years in a Reds uniform is a small mark against him, but it's also a mark against the Reds management at the time (read: I'm looking at you two, Dave Miley and Jerry Narron).

The difference-maker in my eyes is 1995. Reggie Sanders in 1995 was a better player than any year Griffey had as a Red. He was one of the two best players (next to Larkin) on a Reds team that won the NL Central and made it to the NLCS, which is still the last NLCS the Reds have seen. I know Sanders stunk in the playoffs, especially the NLCS, but I've largely tried to forget about that (to Reggie's credit, he did hit a very important home run in Game 2 against the Dodgers in the NLDS). And his playoff performance doesn't discredit all the value he gave the Reds to get them to that point.

FWIW, my ranking of the five went as follows: Sanders, Griffey, Franco, Brantley, Graves. I do expect Griffey to win it, though.
