Though a reasonable person would reduce the SEC total to 19 given the farce of 1964, the last year the AP crowned a champion before bowl season as Bama embarassed them greatly by losing their bowl game after being crowned.

One could further reduce that to 18 because really they imported one when Texas A&M joined. But if one wants to split those hairs, the Big Ten Conference can only boast 10 national championships won by teams while they were actually fully participating in the Big Ten.

Here's a fun read concerning the deficiencies in the math department @ Tuscaloosa:

A lot of those crowns are suspect. With all the complaining about the BCS, it's still so superior to what we had before such as in 1984 when BYU "earned" the NC by beating a 6-5 team in the Holiday Bowl.

A little birdy has told me that Demetruce McNeal a senior safety for the Tigers was arrested last night for possession of marijuana. He was out with Jonathan Evans and Jawara White and best bet is that he is about to become a former player too...

Once Vandy fans get over the shock of it actually being possible to have a winning record, they'll start dreaming that one day, even the Commodores might possibly, no matter how unlikely, win an actual championship. Then even Vandy fans will care.

Wow, could you be any more pompous?

You're Auburn, bro. You're not Alabama.

The Chancellor of Texas A&M goes off on ESPN and calls them out for a lack of journalistic integrity....

It is surprising that the nation's largest sports channel would support publication with this lack of corroboration.

It's what ESPN does Mr Chancellor. And don't expect a retraction if they're proven wrong either.

Funny, IIRC, they made Manziel by referring to him as "Johnny Football" every chance they got. I had never heard of the guy until ESPN began hyping him.

I guess schizophrenic can be added to the list of negatives concerning ESPN.

It's just how the game is played. I'm not a Rovell fan but I don't doubt for a second that he was told about the payments. I mean, does anyone really believe Manziel went to multiple places to sign hundreds of items for memorabilia dealers and didn't get anything? But no one should be surprised these guys aren't talking to the NCAA, just as they wouldn't let their names be attached to the original story. No athlete will ever come near them again if they rat out Manziel on the record. It's bad for business. Not to mention that Texas has one of those laws about being liable for causing a university or athlete to run afoul of the NCAA; another reason not to talk.

So yeah, A&M's chancellor is doing the smart thing. Even if he knows or suspects Manziel did something wrong, he knows the smoking guns will stay hidden, so he's free to stand up for his guy and blast ESPN and smear the sources and anyone else who might do harm to the Johnny Football brand. The one that's making A&M a whole lot of money, by the way.

Sure. But he didn't have any problems with ESPN when they were hyping the crap out of Manziel.

I don't think even the most astute, ardent Auburn fans are fully prepared for what is about to happen on the plains this year.

Ole Miss vs Vandy kick off their seasons Thursday. I think it's a big game for both teams.

Ole Miss has a hellacious schedule and despite the legit buss about the direction of their program, this season has a chance to get away from them very quickly and they could have 6 losses by Oct 19th. They desperately need to beat Vandy.

Vandy likewise has momentum to their program and legit buzz. Their schedule is much more manageable save a 4 week stretch before turkey day. But win in the home opener against a quality opponent could go a long way to return the focus on the field and not on the off field tragedy that is festering in Nashville. A loss, and it's likely they start out 0-2 in the SEC and it just gives the negativity a chance to seap in at a time when Vandy needs to step up and take the results on the field to the next level.

That will teach him. It could have been worse...the NCAA was contemplating forcing him to actually attend a real class.

Very, very weak on the NCAA's part. Will they even come forward and state why the "suspension"? Or will they hid behind something like "an unspecified violation of NCAA rules"?
