I guess there is no such thing as a bad question in a philosophical sense but certainly not all questions are equal and often the question illuminates more about the one posing it then its answer. Case in point.

Becoming bowl eligible is a huge deal because it essentially can give a program an extra six weeks of practice. In the case of Vandy this is absolutely huge as Franklin builds a program that is chronically competitive.

But lets ignore the obvious. This would seem like a fair question for a Commodore fan to ask a Volunteer fan who is skeptical of the significance of bowl game appearances, so as an Auburn Tiger fan who is interested in all things SEC, I pose it to you.

Is going to a bowl game three straight years better than not going to a bowl game for the third straight year?

    I'd rather go 6-7 than 5-7.

And we can talk about how "cheap" it is to go to bowl games these days, but at the end of this year, it's likely that only 6 SEC teams will be able to say they've been to 3 straight bowl games: Bama, LSU, A/M, UGa, USC, and Vanderbilt.

No Tennessee, no Florida(probably), no Auburn, no State or Ole Miss. Don't take winning seasons/bowl games for granted.

Forget trying to remember the last time Tennessee won a bowl game, can you even remember the last time they actually went to one?

As a Tennessee fan, I'd love to see them squeak into a Bowl. My longing for it shows just how far the program has sunk. They're mired in a low point that goes beyond my memory.

Going to Bowl games beats not going. No question about that. My original point had to do with the historical significance. Due to how much Bowl eligibility has changed in recent years, it means very little to say that this Vandy squad accomplished something that no 60s or 70s Vandy squad did. Your comment on the 6 SEC schools is much more pertinent. Actually, I think 6 is quite a few for one conference and is something for which the SEC should be proud.

Nope. The state of UT football is still in the crapper. Thanks for reminding me...

Has Vandy ever beaten Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee in the same season before?

Vandy had never beaten UGa and UF in the same season. Beating the Viles would just be icing on the cake.
