Soooooo, I'm going to assume that you're a huge Joey Votto fan, considering the fact that he finds himself on 1st (or rounding 1st) more than any other Red.

Am I wrong? Or is he just a huge waste of money?

Being 2nd in caught stealing is a good thing, it's just worded weirdly. They've only been caught stealing once, right?

And yet, going into tonight, the Reds had scored more runs than the Cardinals and the Cubs.

He is a huge waste of money on a team structured like the Reds. But he's damn good at baseball.

Votto is the player you build a team around. He is way overpaid, just like many other players. Unfortunately, the insane amount of money star players get has made competing for the non deep pockets teams impossible. Every team should have the same amount of money to spend, but that will never happen.

Without Votto, this team scores maybe half the runs it has so far.

But, ultimately, be the same non-contender likely to finish 4th in the division.

Born (1952) and raised in So Calif. Dodger fan until Koufax retired (1966). Learned baseball by word of mouth listening to Vin Scully. Still the best on the planet. Then saw the 1967 Reds with young players coming in...Rose, Bench, Perez etc. Been a Reds fan since (48 yrs). Seen the great BRM, and the lean years of the early 80's. Was at Riverfront the night Helms took over for Rose after being banned. Been to Cincinnati many times to see games, but now on fixed income, so trips infrequent now. I see them when they come west.

They've also allowed more runs than both.
I don't like to sound egotistical, but every time I stepped up to the plate with a bat in my hands, I couldn't help but feel sorry for the pitcher.

And have been shut out twice and scored one run three times. Take away the 16 run game they had, and the team is showing its colors and what a lot of people were afraid of this year. It just isn't a very good hitting team, healthy or otherwise.
