10 Reasons to still watch the Reds this year...

    1. Cueto. He is in thick of the Cy Young Race. I think he has passed Waino for now and is inches away from Kershaw IMO.
    2. Billy H. ROY award contender..Needs to keep up his current performance to lock this down.
    3. Spoiler role. Nothing would make me happier than to ruin the Cardinals chances at post season play...esp. this weekend.
    4. Mesoraco and Frazier. How strong will these guys finish? Either way they are our future.
    5. Return of Votto/BP. Love em or hate em I am very curious to see how they play the rest of this year. We will need both next year...
    6. The defense. It's been spectacular this year and there is no reason to believe it will be anything else.
    7. Broxton and Chappie....seriously great 1/2 duo this year (last night not withstanding).
    8. Negron. I know a lot of people question him, but I would love to see him finish the season strong and lock a spot down for next year.
    9. 2015. How will all the above mentioned pieces fit in 2015?
    10. Hey who knows....we are not out of it statically yet this year!!

    11. Because it's still baseball season.

If you only watch baseball when your team is winning, time to pick a new team.

A small market team will, over time, lose more than it will win.

Generally, if you only watch your team when it's winning, you likely shouldn't watch sports.

Agreed. And sometimes, when you team is bad, you get the nice bonus of seeing more kids join the bigs. ML debuts are always interesting to see...good OR bad.
    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

Cancelled my MLB.com At Bat membership for the rest of the season. Forgot to do it last month. This team isn't currently worth an extra $25/mo, and living in Arizona means I'll only be checking box scores from here on out.

Nice product you've put together Walt.

I agree Walt is to blame. No depth. No moves. No back up plan for injuries. Horrible extensions. Bad bench construction. Refuse to give AAA players a chance until almost forced.

I agree with this overall, but I think the bench is fine. The problem is the bench being turned into starters. The bench going into the season was one of the best we've had in a LONG time IMO. I was doubtful about Pena and Santiago and they've BOTH been solid additions.

(And I don't see many horrible extensions either)

Even if we don't make the playoffs, it would still be nice to finish ahead of the Cards

At least you admit to being a bandwagon fan.

    Good for you.

I think that's a bit unfair. Bottom line: it's entertainment. If they're not entertaining, why should he shell out his hard-earned cash? I think it's silly to compare levels of fanaticism. I'm always a Reds fan. But do I watch every game and keep track daily when they're 10+ games back? No, I have better things to do with my time. REDblooded said he still checks box scores (which by the way was the ONLY thing fans could do out of state not too long ago to keep track of their team). I hardly think he's less of a fan than you or me because of it.

Well, it's one thing to decide you aren't getting your money's worth and to cancel your MLB At-Bat account and another to come into a thread about positive things to watch for the Reds this season and talk about canceling your subscription like it's some big statement and an indictment of the entire organization like you are so much smarter than everyone else by not watching them play anymore.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

You have a point. But emotions are high. We all care, we're all DIE HARD fans, why else would we be HERE? He was stating his disgust with the team. Others made it personal by singling him out as a poor fan. Poor taste, in my opinion.

It depends on your definition of fandom. Some of us actually cheer for the team good or bad. That's my definition.

If you have the $25 to spare on the Reds when they are good, than you have $25 to spare when they aren't.

Considering the allotment of injuries that have hindered the Reds this season, and the fact that they have still been close this year despite that fact, hardly in my mind make one a "DIE HARD" fan to cut bait when the season goes south over a $25 that is within their means.

He has every right to cut bait. But don't come on here in a positive thread, and tell those who spend their hard earned money to travel from Canada every year to watch the Reds live, good or bad (and in my time, the bad has heavily outweighed the good), or watch the games down to game 162 what a DIE HARD fan is.
