There are completely different expectations for every player, and Votto is not reaching the expectations for him "this season".
    Is he?

Joey Votto has 103 wRC this season. He is making $17M.
Brandon Phillips has 57 wRC this season. He is making $10M.

    $17M/103 = $165,000 per weighted run created.
    $10M/57 = $175,000 per weighted run created.

Brandon Phillips is making more money per run created. I only looked at those two players. There may be more.

Why is no one asking Arroyo to allow a third as many runs as Bailey, or win 3 times as many games?

Baseball player salaries are like electronic hardware. You pay the highest premium for the last few percentages of performance. This is why the most important part of putting a solid team together is to first make sure you have no players below average, before then paying a premium for players above average.

I'm in love with this post.

How many runs has Ryan Ludwick created for his $2M? The assertion that Joey Votto is last on the team in runs created per $ seems made up to me.

Aroldis Chapman is batting .000 and has created zero runs (for the Reds), so I imagine his runs created per $ is pretty poor.

But at least he realized that once he arrived at that 3-2 count, he shouldn't walk if he couldn't get a hit. It's called hitting, not walking, after all.

This is probably the wrong thread so move it where ever you feel fit. But Brian Kenny was comparing votto and allen craigs numbers with RISP.

    Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 15h

PS, Craig is a beast: 2-outs, RISP, Career: Craig: .456/.616 Votto: .469/.529

    Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 15h

Late and Close, Career: Craig .311/.365 Votto .434/.538 No, really...

    Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 15h

    ICYMI: career #'s, High Leverage: Craig .362/.517....Votto .462/.646 #stopcherrypickin

Did they do a segment on Votto vs Craig and Phillips and other players? I guess Cincinnati fans aren't the only ones that have no idea how good of a season Votto is having.

It is really funny how 1 little stat (RBI) plays such a big part in how a lot of people evaluate a player. Especially when that stat is dependent on your teammates.

With runners in scoring position in 2013:

Joey Votto: 166 plate appearances, 45 RBI
Brandon Phillips: 177 plate appearances, 80 RBI
