I've gone a whole week without Reds baseball because I just moved down to Louisiana. Now that I have my WiFi up and running, it feels amazing to be able to watch again

well that wasn't the type of inning I had in mind. Quick 1-2-3.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Reds had the benefit of four walks, three wild pitches, and two hits in the first three innings. Got one run. Now it's a tough fight.

Knock Cahill out in the 5th with the top of the order coming up.

Seems the Reds are doing a great job today of working the counts.

Is that true? Don't have the luxury of viewing the game.

I know it's a pitcher who struggles, but it's easy on a getaway game to not work the count.

Same concern here. Still, it's relatively early. Still think there's a good shot.

Seems like they took advantage of his wildness and ended up with a run out of it, while getting a chance to get to the Arizona bullpen early.

Seems like Latos rarely gets run support. Should have gotten to this bum today, he has had nothing.

Not really. The guy was missing the strike zone by 2 feet.

    A 1-2-3, 1-2-3 inning.

6 total pitches, fantastic comeback inning for Mat.

    Re: 8/22/13 - Reds vs. D-Backs

I know taking pitches is a balancing act. When a pitcher is struggling with command a batter may get a fat pitch to take advantage of but you don't want to help them out. What the Reds often do and are doing today is maddening to observe.

Ex. 2nd inning- Mez walks on 5 pitches, Cozart on 4, 1st two pitches to Latos are swinging strikes. Why on earth did he not have a take sign? The odds of him doing something with a fat pitch are not great so why let the pitcher maybe find a groove.
3rd inning- Votto walks on 4 pitches, 2 balls to Phillips then he swings on possible ball 3 and certainly not a wheelhouse pitch. Bruce walks on 4 pitches. Cahill has now thrown 10 of 11 pitches (maybe even 11 in a row) as balls. First two to Ludwick are balls- then he starts swinging. For him to swing it better be a fat pitcher and he better do damage. He eventually k'd (looking) to end the inning.
4th- After 4 walks in 2 innings, the Mez starts off making an out on the first pitch and Cozart takes two balls before starting to swing. So much for letting Latos get a breather and continuing to work the count. The D'Backs have a spent pen and the Reds should be doing everything to drive up the pitch count and should stop letting Cahill off the hook.

4.9 per game, best on the Reds, and 27th in the majors.
