    Cubs expected to pursue CHOO..

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/0...edium=facebook

If we make a qualifying offer, how does this effect his market value..

A lot of variables in this as it's one of the first times a top player is available during free agency, and what the cost of loosing a first round pick will do to his market value?

If you ask me it's bad move for the Cubs. They are still a few years away.

That would suck since the Cubs will have a protected pick. And since Choo would be a Cub.

The Cubs have the farm system to make moves if they want to.

I would think that the Ms would be all over Choo (and any other outfielder with a pulse) this off season.

    Does Choo not like winning?
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

The Ms could easily be an above .500 team next season with a couple of shrewd FA pickups and the promotion of their arms to the major league rotation. The Cubs? I'm not sure how far away they are.

Like most, he probably likes $$ more. I love what Choo has done for the Reds, but I don't think the Reds ever expected him to come back next year. He was a stop gap until Hamilton gets here in 2014. But, I think he's been even better than expected.

The Cubs can pursue Choo, it doesn't mean Choo wants to be Poo.

I bet they said the same thing in the 1920's....

And the Cubs never truly win, just the other team they're playing happened to lose

In case of Cubs signing Choo, it would be a good idea not to re-sign Arroyo.
If we sign Arroyo, he should not start against the Cubs.
    Hoover owns Choo.

Choo will be a Red in 2014. Just watch. The Reds are getting a HUGE TV deal. We have the money. They cannot count on Ludwick next year so it would be wise to extend Choo and call up Hamilton. Our line up would be pretty filthy and balanced.

    Choo- LF
    B Hamilton- CF
    Votto- 1B
    Mesoraco- C
    Bruce- RF
    Phillips- 2B
    Frazier- 3B
    Cozart- SS

Depends on Mesoraco's development, he could be the RH # 4 we need. That way BP can be moved to the 6 hole. If not, then Phillips is the clean up hitter and Mes hits 6th.

This franchise needs a rapidly moving 3B or SS to pressure Frazier and Cozart. That or we acquire one in a trade involving a SP

How much is too much for Choo? I read a report last week that suggested the bidding starts at 4 years and $60 million. I would think that someone would go to 5 years (hopefully not the Reds) but if they make him a qualifying offer it could deflate the bidding a bit and maybe that's a reasonable amount. Choo in CF for one more year and then a move to LF in 2015 seems pretty good to me. Something to think about but I'd definitely make a qualifying offer and see what happens.

They are only 3 games below a non-protected pick, so that ship hasn't sailed yet.
