Just as a side note, there is a great Tom Verducci article in this weeks SI entitled "The Swing". It talks about the modern theories of hitting, primarily about thbe O's Chris Davis. Votto is mentioned. I'd post a link but I think its subscribers only right now.

Re: Joey Votto and his magically shrinking SLG%

I'd be worried if he was ops-ing in the mid to lower 800s. Even then, I'd give him another year before I'd REALLY worried.

He's 100 points higher than my worry zone.

    Edit:
    Joey's OPS+ is currently 150. His career OPS+ is 154

    Compared to .411/.435/.845 at home.

Small samples, yada yada i know. Still weird. I hope his home performance has been the anomoly and corrects to his road (and career) norms, instead of vice versa.

Edit: 31 EBH on the road to 16 at home in roughly equal PAs and ABs.
This is another reason why I'm not worried. Joey having an 845 home OPS screams "fluke" to me.

I still think he's struggling to come back from his knee injury. Offensively and defensively. No doubt his power is down, but I see it as temporary.

Maybe he can't get poutine in Cincinnati but can on the road. It's the fuel required to power Canadian killer cyborgs from the future. That and fancy coffee.

    Obviously

Oh great, another thread bashing Phillips.

    Can't get poutine in Cincinnati?

Obviously you've never been to Senate in Over the Rhine. The poutine there might be the greatest damn thing I've ever consumed in my life.

Maybe something's wrong with Joeybot's poutine location sensors

Re: Joey Votto and his magically shrinking SLG%

    Votto's 2013 isn't a lot different from his 2011 season.

This year is just one season. I'd be careful making too much out of differences between relatively small samples.

How long is temporary? One year Seems like a long time to heal from a relatively minor knee surgery.

    I'm giving you homework.

Find ten guys with career SLG over .500 that suffered a similar injury to Votto. Report back to RaisorZone what they did a year out.

I would expect his numbers to rebound next year after a full healthy offseason.

And didn't Votto miss like 6 weeks with his injury last year? I would hardly call that minor.

    No thanks on the homework.

Just tired of hearing about his knee surgery as an excuse for Votto's lack of power. I hope it's temporary because my favorite team s married to the guy for the next 10 years.
