But it's absurd to say the Reds won the trade the day it was made, IMO. Latos could have blown out his shoulder in spring training, and the 4 players the Reds gave up could have prospered in a big way. I don't score trades until the players play baseball. I may like or dislike them, understand the rationale or not, but I'm going to wait to assess the benefits to the franchise until the baseball happens.
I guess it's possible the sun won't rise in the morning, seems like a really good bet though.

The second Leather Pants cracked on the trade it was a guarantee that it was not only a win but an epic win for the Reds.

Boxberger could become a #3 or 4 starter? Has anyone ever said he could be a starter? All I've ever heard is that Boxberger was destined to be in the pen (al be it a dominant closer by some) but never a starter.

How did the goof keep his job as long as he did?

Bowdens may not be the worst in that article - check out Buster Olney's comments.

I was trying to be objective and look at Grandal and Alonso in some light that would make this a win for the Padres or even a break even for them. It's a giant leap but if Yonder and Yasmani turn out to be Mark Grace and Mike Piazza, Then ya 15 years from now we might have 'lost' this trade in totality. But for immediate needs and how it works out with PEDs etc. i would be shocked if anyone considers this anything but a huge Jocketty/Reds win over Josh Brynes/Pads.

I think Volquez was the least important part of tne deal, so his release and poor performance doesn't have much impact on who "won" the trade. Personally I think the Reds "won" the trade the day Grandal was suspended for PED use. He was the key to the deal, and now it looks like getting rid of him was one of the smartest moves Jocketty made.

Ummmmm, that was before Votto signed extension when everyone believed we did not have budget to sign him. Lots of people advocated trading Votto at that time because of this.

So that comment is not that dumb if you remember when he said it.

Yes, some people were saying that when he was drafted and in the first year in the system when he was still starting. More thought he would wind up in the bullpen, but there was thought from some that he could start.

I'd like to win the trade for keeps and get Latos signed long term. The price keeps going, up, up and away...

So if Cingrani has to miss more starts, who wants to see this?

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

And that was our ace going into the 2010 playoffs. Well he must have been since he started game 1 of the NLDS.
