Doubtful. It would have been started a day later and been all about "How come we can score 10 runs off of their ace in Game 1, but can't _____."

Head to head, and overall, I think they're better. The pitching staffs are pretty even, but they're a much better hitting team. For years I've heard "The Cardinals are lucky! They can't sustain it! They can't keep hitting with RISP like this!" But you know what? Every year, they do. They're a team of professional hitters who put together great at-bats, and it shows. We have a few guys who do that, but not nearly enough.

Cardinals think that Wainwright might be tipping pitches, or the Reds are stealing signs.

Or the Reds just lit up their ace two games in a row and they're having trouble admitting something might be wrong with him.

The Cardinals wondered if the Reds spied Wainwright tipping pitches.

“That’s always one of the first lines of defense when you’re trying to break things down,” manager Mike Matheny said. “You want to make sure you’re not giving them anything for free. We’ve been breaking it down trying different things. You’re always on the lookout for that. It’s possible.”

Here is the stltoday.com game thread from yesterday.

It is hilariously similar to some of our game threads - from the 2nd inning surrender posts due to falling behind, the 'do you trust this guy in a one game playoff' posts, to the " so and so is being squeezed" posts.

Of course it is all team adjusted except for this gem:
I've got the Reds announcers so I have to mute it. thom brenneman is sicko

Even Cardinal fans complain about the Reds announcers.

Does anyone have a breakdown of how bipolar our offense is? I don't know if I've seen anything like this where a team leads the league in hitting but has so many duds.

Everyone knows when a pitcher dominates your team's lineup, it's your team's fault, for having a terrible offense.

And of course when your team's pitcher dominates the other team's offense, your team has awesome pitching.

If The Reds could steal signs, I'm pretty sure they'd be putting up way better numbers team-wide than they are to this point.

Yet another example in a long line of "If we win it's because we're awesome, if you win it's because <insert BS excuse and/or whining>." from The Cardinals.

I've never understood the whole concept with a supposed "stealing signs" issue. If you're able to detect what the other team is doing, why wouldn't you use that. As it is, the amount of time to see it, convey that info and a batter to process said info, just strikes me as a very narrow window.

But Wainwright can keep tipping pitches all he wants if that's what's going on. Heaven knows we had pitchers who seemed to have been doing that.

Last night was 1 of the best games of the season. It had a real playoff feel to it.

Even though the offense was lackluster, the pitching was so dominant and the offense at least came through when needed. And it means the Reds will at least split the series. Huge win/game.

Anyone who HAD to listen to the Cards broadcast last night got an earful of it for several innings from McLaughlin and Hrabosky.

there can't be two bigger homer broadcasters than these two
