If you notice, MLB base umps do not carry counters.

Wouldn't it be interesting to see what the "Joey-can-do-no-wrong" people would have had to say if that bone-head move would have for sure cost the Reds a run?

    Who are these people?

Good lord they all do wrong, the rate of failure in baseball is stupefying, we celebrate guys who are successful less than half the time consistently in this game.

If anything we should be able to accept failure as a HUGE part of any contest

Even better would have been the reaction if Dusty had transposed names on the lineup card.

I don't think anyone has said that Votto didn't do anything wrong. Given the choice between him knowing the outs and not knowing the outs I would prefer the former. I'd guess that 1-2 guys forget how many outs there are every game but we usually don't notice. I don't believe Votto is immune to the mistakes probably every other player has made.

I don't believe it cost the Reds a run but even if it had, it happens. I've not noticed Votto make a habit of forgetting the outs, so I'm not going to attempt to read some deeper meaning into it.

Yes I am mad at Joey....but I am more upset that the umpire did not call strike 3 on the walk to Holiday....that was a strike all game and every other game in MlB and that same ump calls that a strike the rest of the game against Luddy and Frazier.....that pitch was a strike and I have looked at it a handful of times. If we are going to hold Joey accountable lets hold these umps accountable and realize that we should have been out of that inning without Craig even batting.

It seems that every single time I watch a Cards game, be it against the reds or any other team, they are always getting the close calls and the ball seems to always bounce their way.....I cannot think of a time recently where borderline calls have went against them. Sour grapes? Maybe but they are still sour and I still don't like it.

I realize this may be hard to comprehend, but ballplayers are human beings just like the rest of us. It has nothing to do with thinking that Votto can do no wrong, he certainly can and did last night. However, nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes, whether we want to admit it or not. It's silly to ignore that fact and continue to make a mountain out of a proverbial molehill out of something that did not affect the outcome of the game.

You nailed it! That's pretty much what I thought they might say.

Btw, they are not like the rest of us...especially Votto. He's paid millions to keep his head in the game. To not the how many outs there are in THAT situation, in THAT game, can't be excused with the "all humans make mistakes" line. 45,000 people in that stadium knew how many outs there where. ONE did not.
