While one game does not a season make, I thought last night demonstrated the reality of where we stand. Clearly our hurlers got squeezed - especially on the "ball four" to Holliday from Hoover. BUT, when given the opportunity, the Cards just make things happen by the force of will. They are tougher and more determined than our guys. As much as I don't want it to be true, St. Louis is the class of the division. I do think the Pittsburg will fade and we will be in the playoffs, but don't think we have what it takes to win big games.

I hate to raise this because everybody loves the prospects so much. But could it be that the Reds lack the tried and true veterans who have been through the wars many times?

Cards have Molina and Holliday. Serious veterans. Reds have Arroyo on the mound, yes, but in the lineup it's Ludwick (coming off injury) and Phillips.

I know Votto and Bruce have some playoff experience but they aren't quite at the point of real experienced guys with deep playoff experience.

Somebody made a comment like this on the game thread last night, and I agree.

Not talking about clubhouse intangibles. Talking about guys who can really lead the club on the field.

Maybe it doesn't matter, just a thought.
