Some interesting stats vs the Cards this year

Obviously they have owned us. But did you know that Votto, Choo, Bruce, Phillips, and Mesoraco all have a higher OPS vs the Cards this year compared to their season OPS? I was quite shocked to see that.

    Votto .997 vs .932
    Choo .883 vs .860
    Bruce .872 vs .809
    Mes .909 vs .689
    Phillips .731 vs .714

But the Reds have scored 3.5 runs per game vs the Cards compared to 4.28 runs per game on the season and the Reds pitching has been destroyed with an ERA over 3 runs higher than their season ERA.

Also Todd Frasier has put up .334 OPS vs the Cards, while Heisey, Paul, and Ludwick are a combined 3 for 43 with 1 run scored and 3 rbi.

nice post how about stats for two men on a base, non clutch hitting, non relief pitching, blown leads in late innings

Well, Votto did have a big 3-run homer on 8/2 to cut the Cardinals lead down to 9.

Why does it seem like Votto is having a rough year? Still among the NL's finest but his power is not like last year.

Because he has no protection and in situations where he can do damage he is being pitched very carefully limiting his damage...no one fears Brandon Phillips. Put a Matt Holliday or even a Craig behind him and watch his numbers explode. Or even, heretic as it might sound, lefty after lefty, Jay Bruce.

He has more R, H and HR already than last year but his OBP and OPS is down. Suppose your right. Any rumors of the Reds getting anything before the Aug deadline?

I've been saying that all year. While BP has put up some nice RBI totals no one fears him, or fears the fact that he could take the next pitch yard and make the opposition pay for walking votto. Hopefully the reds can bring in a legit right handed bat in during the off season for the first time since Greg Vaughn and solidify the middle of the order.

Counting stats like R, H and HR are sort of comparing apples to oranges in this situation, though, since he missed so much time last season with his knee injury. He's already had about 120 plate appearances more than he had last year, so stands to reason those would be proportionally up.

His OPS production this season is more similar to what it was in 2011. Shame he got injured last season, 2012 was setting up to be a pretty historic season as far as his production goes.

And last year he missed two months and had no power when he came off the DL. Almost all his HR were pre knee injury.
Reds fan since 1968 win or lose.

Only stat I care about is W/L. Hoping to at least sniff close to .500 w/the Cards via a sweep this week.

Sweet, in my mind the Reds didn't blow a 2 games to none lead against the Giants last October. 2012 World Champs! Woooo!!!
