Seems to me if they're announcing it now, they're calling him up before the deadline. He's just not coming to Denver.
Don't think so. Reds would have to drop a player to put Billy on the 25 man roster before 9/1.
He's one of several players being moved up when rosters expand. Don't think that does it for the post-season.

From the sounds of what Fay is saying, they'll call up Hamilton Monday morning. So a regular September callup. NOT postseason eligible.
The Reds have purchased from Class AAA Louisville the contract of LHP Zach Duke (#30), optioned to Louisville RHP Nick Christiani and designated for assignment RHP Justin Freeman.
Prior to Sun’s game at Col the Reds are expected to recall from Class AAA Louisville IF Henry Rodriguez (#36), RHP Curtis Partch (#46) and OF Derrick Robinson (#15).
Prior to Mon afternoon’s game vs StL the Reds are expected to return from a rehabilitation assignment and reinstate from the 15-day disabled list C Corky Miller (#37), recall from Class AAA Louisville IF Neftali Soto (#50) and select from Louisville the contract of OF Billy Hamilton (#6).
I don't know how you possibly expect to be able to tell anything, other than what Hamilton will look like in a Reds uniform, while getting pinch hit/run opportunities, and maybe a couple of starts.
They can get around that using DL'ed players
Yeah I think too many people are forgetting the DL'ed player rule.
