I could see this happening, certainly. A reasonable guess.

I know it absolutely will not happen, but I would love to see the Reds put Hamilton at shortstop for the rest of the season...or at least work out a rotation with Cozart. There is not an outfielder that I see needing to be replaced, but replacing Cozart could jump start the Reds' offense.

    And stall the Reds pitching.

I am not advocating a total replacement, but I would like to see Hamilton employed as part of a tandem at shortstop.

And how would Hamilton stall the pitching? Cozart averages about four chances per game.

Sorry, Spitball. I also don't think that it will happen nor do I want it to. Gotta' agree with Doug here. Why 'downgrade' SS defensively here, which Hamilton is likely to be, as well as have a less likely hitter with with less power.

I think that this 'callup' will likely result in Hamilton learning how to find GAB---not in any significant playing time, mostly Pinch-running, maybe a few CF defensive fill-ins in blowouts and learning what it's like to be in 'the Bigs'.

Plus, I'm happy with the way that Cozart has hit lately. (I have somewhere I have to be or I'd look up his numbers since he was dropped out of the #2 hole.) Other than possibly stealing a base in a playoff game and maybe putting a few more people in the seats, I don't really see a lot of advantage to this move. I'm guessing that Hamilton will play AZL Fall League or some 'winter ball' to speed his progress to full-time arrival, next spring.

Because Hamilton is not remotely close to being a viable shortstop option at the Major League level right now. His defensive issues would lead to the pitching taking a large step backwards.

Hope not much. I want to see him only in blowouts and as a pinch runner.

Nothing personal but they are in a pennant race and do not have time to guide a new pup. Maybe things will change and the Reds will shoot 5 games into 1st place and Billy can get some PT in the last 2 weeks of the season

Cozart has a .350 OBP this last month. I don't see the need to replace him with a 22 rookie who hasn't been able to match that yet in AAA, and who hasn't played SS in a year.

Games that Hamilton doesn't start he should pinch run once a game.

THATS why Billy Hamilton belongs on the 25 man roster in October

He can takes Itzuris's place. If Cozart gets hurt Hamilton can play SS the rest of that game & the team can replace Cozart with Itzuris for the rest of the postseason.
I pushed for this move last season. My reasoning remains the same: a pinch-running specialist is more needed than the last arm in the bullpen. With off days built into the playoff schedule and the need to play every game to win, the worst arm/mop-up role is unnecessary. Put it this way, if you're counting on your worst arm in the pen to contribute during the playoffs, then you're probably not going to go far. But a PR in the 8th who can draw the focus of a pitcher (just the THREAT of stealing, not even actually stealing) and who can score from 1st on a gapper... yea, sign me up.

I'm definitely hoping he makes the post season roster. I think he's got a month to show he can play that role on this playoff-bound squad.
I have a love-hate relationship with Albert Pujols. Mostly hate.

I think he'll do OK against major league arms -- pitchers and catchers -- but every at bat will be an event, and when he doesn't do something, the spotlight will be bright. He won't be Rickey Henderson the first week. But he might soon surpass the likes of Xavier Paul.

Hamilton reaches base 14 times but steals 20 bases?

I hope that ends up being true.

I don't want to speak for powersackers, but I hope Billy gets to pinch run a lot. That would account for more stolen base opportunities.

    Good point.

    Didn't think about that.
