76-61 isn't .500, no matter how many times you repeat it.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

And if we accept that, then what? Do we stop watching? Give up entirely on this year, and only discuss what can be done next year? Just simply keep repeating "They're only a .500 team" over and over until the season's over?
I'm seriously asking, not trying to be snarky at all.
Hate to break the news, but this the lot of being a baseball fan
Some.good, some bad, a lot of turmoil and confusion, and equal does of hope and cynacism for tomorrow.
This is how it's been and will continue to be. So don't feign shock.
She used to wake me up with coffee ever morning
But who wouldn't? is there anyone on this board that doesn't wish the Reds were in first place, playing perfect baseball, beating everyone?
I'm asking, what is the purpose of taking the approach of "they're not that good" and "they're a .500 team" and "they have no chance in a wildcard playoff game"?
If you believe those things, then what? Do you keep watching? Do you keep following the rest of the season? Why would you?

For that to be true, they'd have to win 5 games the rest of the way.
Since we're all about trading "facts," I have some!
Today not withstanding:

Also who had Greg Reynolds for best start by a Reds pitcher in Colorado. It stands out just how good he was for the team last night.
IMHO if you keep saying "they're not that good" and "they're a .500 team" and "they have no chance in a wildcard playoff game" it helps with the disappointment and the heartbreak (if it happens). The fall to the depths of despair is not so great.
I don't think anyone on this forum has given up on this team - but seems to be a toll on your emotions to invest in them this year. Of course, it doesn't help that they're in a division with 2 other teams making a run for the post season as well - makes it seem like the Reds are a .500 team in comparison.
