Bowa was 99 points below the league in OPS for worst rate vs the league for guys with 2000 hits, Staub was plus 80 and Nettles plus 38

Yea I was gonna chime in on Nettles for sure and Staub but I didn't.

Where was Amos Otis? I'm not familiar with this formula.

Willie McGee, BJ Surhoff, Juan Pierre, Wally Joyner all don't have much going for their lines except for the hits and batting average. Joyner had plate patience, but terrible power.

Worst to get 1900+ = Royce Clayton

For the original question. In the what might have been category: Bo Jackson. Yeah I know his stats are pretty iffy, but had he focused on baseball, and not been injured. I have a feeling that he would have been the bench mark player of the nineties, not named Bonds.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

Wow, smack down. Sit down and shut up, I guess.

Yours and others lack of understanding apparently invalidates another's point of view? Maybe baseball overdoes all these milestones, and gets the crowd all jazzed up for a nice, but nowhere near the hype, accomplishment? Yea, I think that. Sorry if that causes you to lose your lunch.

    Next time, try some Rolaids.

    For me I'd go:

    1) Roy Campanella
    2) George Foster
    3) Bobby Bonds
    4) Roger Maris

    Couldn't really decide on a 5th.

Best ever. Jim Coombs. After starting his career 17 for 17, all being home runs, he was never pitched to again. He has since retired to some remote island and has been known to drink Dos Equus as the occasion warrants.

Maybe not worst, but Todd Zeile's career screams "consistently okay". He hung around so long he got 2000 hits, but nothing really stands out about him.

I can guarantee you that no one who ever saw Craig Nettles
play third base, particularly during the post season, would ever include him as the "worst" at anything.

Staub wasn't a bad ball player either.

Speier could pick it at SS...but doesn't change my opinion. Nettles and Staub getting that close to 3,000 games played....wouldn't get close in today's game.

No one on the list is bad.
