    Chapmans next Save Opp

Anyone a little nervous about the next time Chapman comes I to close out a game after such a long lay off. Would have thought Dusty would have gotten him an inning or two recently to keep him sharp.

He'll really need to focus on his mechanics to keep it from sailing high.

Yes a little bit, but I am glad he got the layoff after being ridden a little too hard for a few weeks.

Why in the world would you pitch your closer in a non-save situation? That is lunacy. Don't you know that their arms are only equipped to pitch in baseball games when their team is winning by 1-3 runs in the last half of the final inning of a game?

The risk of pitching Chapman in a non-stress situation is that the "practice" outing is to be sure to be followed by 3-4 real required outings to the point where he'll have to miss a time when you really need him. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

Understand, but it has been 10days now since he has pitched and when he has been idle for four or five games he has seemed to struggle.

Maybe they've been secretly stretching Chapman out in the bullpen. He'll start Thursday against the Cards in the TBA slot and on into October.

No, no, no. There has to be a way to twist this to poor decision making by the Reds.

The coaching staff needs to be proactive with the Rusty Closer Can't Get the Job Done Syndrome. They can see it coming, and when it happens, they'll just shrug and say, "Well, he hasn't had much work," as if there's nothing they can do.

There has to be a happy medium somewhere.

Hopefully his next save opportunity will be the three run lead variety as I'm not sure i want Chapman in a high stress save opportunity after double digit days off from in game action.

This could be quite a brilliant maneuver by the Reds. Chapman has needed time off after bad stretches in previous years. The substantial likelihood is that the Reds will be in a wild card playoff game, if not critical games end of September.

Even if Chappy is rusty next appearance or two, he could be at the top of his game in a wild card playoff or other important very late season appearance.

He was warming up yesterday. So I think any rest period is now over. But maybe it's a good thing he was out for awhile and is now well-rested.

Bingo! What's the estimate for combined HBP, BB or WP for an inning, if he gets in this series? I'll go with 4.

What's the number if days y'all are comfortable with him not throwing?

What if this streak gets to 20 games?

If this was planned by the Reds, why not disable him and bring up an arm?
