I guess all of our problems are solved now and we are a lock to win the division.

Pretty good 2012 numbers in limited at bats, terrible 2013. Don't love the signing, but don't hate it either. Worst case he seems to be decent AAA depth. Best case scenario he makes the team and ends the year with a slight improvement on his career .239/.307/.359 slash line, and makes for a decent bench player.

How does anyone go from hitting .290 one year, then .181 the next?

Being very lucky in one year (.359 BABIP) and unlucky in the next (.234 BABIP).

Yeah, in fact his career BABIP is .291 or pretty close to half way between these figures. If you take the average of his two OPSes for 2012 and 13, he comes out at .661, within five points, I think, of his lifetime. So if he has his average year, we can pretty well predict what we ought to get out of him: .660
