The difference is that unlike in the past, the Reds have five other quality starting pitchers they can plug into the rotation.
If I'm Walt, and with all absolute respect and thanks to Bronson Arroyo, I'm perfectly happy with a rotation of Latos-Cueto-Bailey-Cingrani-Leake and save myself the eight figures plus it would cost per year to re-sign Bronson.

With the uncertainty about Cueto's health going forward and it being Bailey's final year in 2014, I think the Reds would be insane to let Arroyo walk if all it takes is a 2/3 year deal to keep him.
