Back to back winning seasons for the Reds

97 wins last season and at least 82 wins this year means that for the first time since 1999 (96 wins) and 2000 (85 wins) the Cincinnati Reds have had consecutive winning seasons. I know our aims are much higher than just a winning season, but I still think it deserves recognition.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

Sometimes I get frustrated with the man but I think we do owe Dusty Baker some credit for pulling us from baseball purgatory - love him or hate him.

Three winning seasons out of the last four.

    I can't believe I just typed that.

Just keep building the culture and winning championships. Don't look now, but they're on their way!

Definitely a big deal worthy of noting and celebrating. With more to come.

I hadn't even thought about that. That's a good step in the right direction to becoming a consistent winner and building a steady franchise.

Awesome! I'm as happy as the next guy. Go Reds!

Also, in response to the snarky "Fire Dusty" jabs that seem to demand an unthinking consensus from the majority of this board, I'd like to make the point that it is possible -- or even likely -- for fans to be both happy with how the Reds are playing AND critical of certain aspects of their performance (whether we're talking about the manager, the general manager or the players).

Supporting and criticizing the Reds are not mutually exclusive options, and it gets tiresome when folks imply that lively critics are somehow lesser fans.

I realize that, and I don't mean to single you out, RTG. But there are assumptions behind every joke, and to find it funny, you have to agree with them.

2000. The only winning season the Reds had with Ken Griffey, Jr.

Of course then Jim Bowden and his brilliance dumped McKeon for Bob Boone...

Basically, what you are saying by the "be happy with the reds play AND dislike aspects of the team" = team loses because of Dusty, team wins in spite of Dusty.

I have criticized Dusty in the past, but the reason I thought my comment was amusing was because when the Reds lose there are a million "fire dusty" posts, when the team wins there are 0.

You can single me out, I don't mind. I am sure my post signals the redszone apocalypse.

Actually, no, I was making a more general point about the status of criticism on the board. I would have had the same response if you had written "Jay Bruce sucks!" or "Clearly BP should stop driving in runs!" as a mocking way of jabbing at those who argue in the opposite direction on other issues.

Dusty happens to be a frequent bugaboo for critics, yes. But there are just as many debates about individual players (Votto, Bruce, BP, etc.) All of these are a vibrant part of this board, and should not be discounted, as long as they are well thought-out.
