Maybe it's because the Reds (Choo in particular) are such a terrible baserunning team so it only seems that way, but Redszone really seems to hate the steal. And hit and run. Too risky.

I love the steal and hate the hit and run. I buy into the Earl Weaver strategy of run and hit.

Would love to see some numbers on how often a hit and run is successful, and stats on who is good at it and who isn't. I suspect some hitters, of course, are better than others.

Steals? Love them if its Dave Collins, Joe Morgan, Barry Larkin and especially Eric Davis. Hate it if it's Choo or BP, these days.

The Reds are full of dudes who can't steal a base. The one who can can't get into a game, even when his team is up 9-0.

"*Do not slide into first (unless to avoid a tag on an errant throw)"

Today in the first game between the Braves and Nats, Andrelton Simmons (Braves' SS) slid hard into first trying to beat out the throw. He came very close; closer than he would have without the slide.

Not sure that's always a bad idea?

    - Don't overly chat up the opposing infielder at whatever base you occupy as the game proceeds.

    - Focus on the next pitch and game situation; not soda-can races and the like.

    - Gum and chew are okay. Seeds should be avoided.

    - Keep laces tightly tied.

    - Limit the gawking at attention-grabbing fans.

    - High socks may give a half-second advantage but this is still an object of research and analysis.

Just hit home runs and you don't have to worry about this base running thing.
