How good is Billy Hamilton?

Would there ever be a case where a slow runner is on first, and Billy grounds to say the second baseman, it would be more prudent for the 2B to throw to first if he could get Billy out right there? Allowing the other runner to advance into scoring position.

If the runner is that slow, you could throw to 1st, get Hamilton then throw to 2nd and tag the runner going to 2nd out. But instinct would probably take over and the 2B would probably throw to 2nd.

I understood his point and I agree but my point is still valid.

It's like would you rather concede 2nd to Hanigan or concede Billy has a 90+% chance of being on second.

Not all teams would/should consider this, but if you have a weak throwing catcher...
