Marty signs a 3 year extension.

I'm glad to see this, but around here I feel I'm among the minority.

I love Marty, but then again I've been out of town for 3 years, so don't really listen to him any more except when I'm back home on leave. I still get chills with "and this one belongs to the Reds" especially if it's an important win/clinch.
    Is it "next season" yet?

The man will probably work until he dies, especially if he's afforded all the extra vacation time they have been giving him the last few years.

As an aside, if you get off essentially November, December, and January, plus most of October and some of February, do you really need a vacation in July?

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

Do you need it no but if you can afford to why not?

For all his faults, Marty is definitely one of the best in the business at calling a baseball game. If you find yourself not appreciating Marty, try to listen to some of the other announcers around the league. There are some brutal play-by-play guys out there.

Marty has been much less grumpy over the last couple of years, has sounded much happier.

Probably a combination of the team being a lot better and being very happy in his personal life.

I love "happy Marty" and feel young again when I hear him calling Reds games.
    sorry we're boring

I hope he never leaves. Despite the grief I constantly have to read here...he simply brings back too much of my childhood for me to ever want to see him go away.

Marty will never be a favorite of the "homers". His "call it as it as he sees it" approach is what defines him and makes him great IMO. Glad he is staying.

I'll take a Marty approach over a George Grande approach any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

    His approach is fine.

He just doesn't know what he's talking about and his comments are often extremely uneducated.

I'll take Bob Ueker every day of the week, and don't need a cheesy line to overstate how awful Brennamen is to players he deems not up to his standards.

I like Marty's voice and his way of saying things. I just don't usually like what he says. If I can somehow manage to tune out the content and just focus on the tones, maybe I'll become a fan like I was as a teen.

Oh well, I don't really listen to Reds commentators much anymore. It's all about streaming the game on my laptop with a playlist going and three other windows open.

I always thought watching baseball games in July WAS vacation.

Re: Marty signs a 3 year extension.

When I'm at home watching on TV if there is a big play I always go the At Bat app on my phone and fire up the radio to hear Marty call the big play. The delay makes it work perfect. When I do this I love Marty and I get all the warm fuzzy feelings so many of you have already mentioned.

When I'm in the car and have to listen to him do an entire game and just unfairly crush Votto or Bailey or Bruce I can't stand Marty. That isn't "telling it like it is" that is grumpy bitter old man and it got old a long time ago.

Overall I'm glad he is back and hope he stays for awhile. Sometimes I think it is just easier to pick your spots with him and embrace the good parts.
