If Boras gets his way, Choo likely won't be a Red.

    http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/...ref_map=%5B%5D

Thinks 5yr/$100MM is "not in the ballpark" and that Choo will get more.

"The value of a lead-off hitter who has a .420 on-base percentage, 20-stolen base speed, 20-home run power, the ability to score 100 runs, and who has the ability to play center field and is a Gold Glove type defender in right field is immense," Boras said. "We don't see these types of players in the free-agent market. I only want to talk about our clients, and the last one we had anywhere near this was Jayson Werth."

Thanks for 2013, Mr. Choo. If Boras holds hard to this line of thinking I REALLY dont think the Reds will pay it, nor would I want them to do so. Who knows how it'll pan out...we'll see.

Sure. But it's not Boras' decision.

    Goodbye, Mr. Choo.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Boras isn't always right, why do we act like he's some sort of perfect agent?

He messed up bad with Michael Bourne just last year, and he ended up asking way too much in the beginning, only to get way less last-minute with the Tribe.

He also over-valued Ryan Madsen, and the Reds were able to work that deal.

Of course Boras is going to say this. He's not going to go the media and tell them what the reasonable price for Choo is.
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

If Choo leaves, it will be terrible, but there is a bright side.

Maybe then the Reds will focus on putting together a real championship caliber offense.

They may be forced to make changes if Choo leaves that they otherwise might not make.

Still, would rather Choo stays, terrific player.

Dave Cameron guessed 5/75 for Choo today.

    Ummmm yes please.

According to fWAR, he has been worth $26.9M this season.

The strategic path the Reds need to forge in keeping Shin-Soo Choo seems pretty straightforward to me.

    Win the World Series.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

The only problem is he is not over-valuing Choo.

How does this surprise anyone? lol. The thought of bringing Choo back just isn't realistic. He's played himself out of Cincinnati.

What is interesting is Choo is nearly exactly meeting his 162 game career average this season is almost every area except walks and OBP.
    http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...choosh01.shtml

    Code:
Year G	PA	AB	R	H	2B	3B	HR	RBI	SB	CS	BB	SO	BA	OBP	SLG	OPS
    2013 150	697	558	106	160	34	2	21	54	20	11	109	131	.287	.424	.468	.891

    162 Game Avg.	162	699	594	95	171	38	4	20	81	20	7	85	146	.289	.389	.466	.855
His outlier stats this year are the walks and HBP. My question is whether this is a fluke, a result of playing with Votto and the Reds, his role, a career year, or a transition for him. I would be concerned about the Reds potentially overpaying him especially in light of his horrendous splits. On the flipside is I don't know how the Reds replace him.

No way Choo gets 5/100 as a 31-year old LF. I think 5/70-75 or 4/65 is probably a lock though. Love to have him back, but going to be a tough one given all the committed contracts.

Reds have a lot of dollars already committed to guys on the wrong side of 30.

215M for Joey, 48M for BP, and I want to throw up... 26 million for 2+1 seasons of Broxton and Ludwick

edit: I lied, it is actually $50M for BP's "slap in the face" contract over the next four years and $30M for Broxton + Ludwick with option buyouts. Egad...

After about 8 home playoff games they will have made enough $$$ to re-sign Choo.

That Werth contract was the peak of contracts for non-mvp caliber guys. Boras has to know that won't be happening again.
