Maybe a certain columnist helped ignite the flames of controversy?

After all, it was all over the media that Ludwick "calls out Reds fans"

Is anyone surprised that Reds fans would respond to that?

I'm excited for this weekend, and will be there Saturday.

    Go Reds!

Fans can't perceive that Latos checked out of some games last year? Fans couldn't see that Bailey used to be hard-headed to the point of affecting the game?

Many of us have spent hundreds of hours observing these players both on television and in person. I think that's more than enough time to draw conclusions about the focus, effort, and preparation of players, both relative to others in the league and relative to past players. And, based on that, I can't be critical if someone wants to charge some of these Reds with inconsistent focus.
For the most part, no fans can't.

Example #1 Latos. I don't think Latos has ever "checked out" of a game. I think sometimes he lets his emotions get the best of him, but that's not a "not caring' problem, that's a caring too much problem.

Trying to judge effort is a very slippery slope and most of the time people don't know what they're talking about.

And if Ludwick wanted to say something intelligent, I might have an appropriate Reds Message Board response for that too.
There have been way more stupid, uniformed comments about Reds players than players have made comments about fans.

Small sample size, we do outnumber them, many millions to 25.

Nah, rosters are expanded right now so that helps their numbers.

As expected, Ludwick (sort of) apologizes. He also goes out of his way to prove he's a fan of the Reds. Talks about going to his first game, Eric Davis being his favorite player, etc.

I think y'all misunderstood my post. I didn't mean every night.

I meant every night deep into a pennant race (read: the last couple of weeks). I think it's reasonable to expect folks to turn out in big numbers the final 2 weeks of the season, no?!?

Yes, but a Wednesday game with school in session? It just isn't going to be a big crowd. That goes for a lot of ballparks.

Well Ludwig, the game tonight was a sell-out and you went 0-4 with a K and GiDP. I noticed the crowd wasn't very loud for your at-bats... maybe your crappy performance was due to lack of crowd support. Gotta blame someone. Can't be you!!

    How about these points;
    2010 playoff no show
    2012 choke job
2013 they are in the thick of a pennant race and choke again, losing 6 out of 9 to the Cubs, Brewers and Mets.

If anyone needs to be embarrassed about anything its these guys about their inability to function, let alone win, under pressure.
    How about this:

2010 ran into a juggernaut Phillies team that was a terrible matchup for us.
2012 ran into a buzzsaw against the Giants, who also rallied from a 3-1 deficit against the Cardinals to win that series, but you never hear anything about how the Cardinals "choked."
2013 choking is what the Braves and Red Sox did in 2011. Qualifying for the playoffs does not equal choking.

This is petty and ridiculous. Ryan Ludwick is a good man that cares a lot about the community. Booing him and dragging him through the mud is embarrassing. Maybe Reds fans are being so sensitive regarding this issue because they know there's a layer of truth to what he said.
