Re: Joey needs 6 hits in the Bucs series ...

By my count, 2 more times on base and Votto breaks Rose's club record for most times on base in a season by any Red.

Remarkable, especially given the vitriol around town for his lack of RBI this year.

One thing I've learned this year, unlike the "W" for pitchers, the importance of which has diminished as folks have better understood stats, the RBI still reigns supreme and is most highly valued, even by FO types.
    sorry we're boring

I just looked more into it on baseball-reference: that 1921 Ruth season is obscene.

    204 hits, 44 doubles, 16 triples, 177 runs scored, 1.359 OPS

Wilt Chamberlain level dominance of MLB at that time. Ridiculous.

I believe these numbers were chosen because they are impressive. Arbitrary numbers would be more like 149 and 13.

There are Kentucky horse farms smaller than some of those old baseball parks. If you hit it through the infield back then, there was a good chance for extra bases.

The best "off year" in history.

Ridiculous in drawing any comparison to his 2013 season versus any season of any of the other guys when they accomplished 180/130.

Batting average, Runs scored and Runs batted in are somewhat important as well.

Yeah but........the two guys behind Votto each knocked in 100 runs. How many teams have had three players with 100 RBI's? It does not happen very often.

My disappointment in Votto this year is his defense. I think he has the most errors of any first baseman. Seems like he does not get in front of a ground ball, he tries to side swipe it. Not sure if it has anything to do with last years injury or not.

Yeah, derp. I was looking at his strikeouts.
Arise and walk, come through. A world beyond that door is calling out for you. Arise and walk, come through. It's calling out for you.

    A few in 1930.

Look at the aforementioned Gehrig's season, 5 guys on the Yankees with 100 rbis

    Code:
    AT BATS AB RBI
    1 Joe DiMaggio 637 125
    2 Lou Gehrig 579 152
    3 Tony Lazzeri 537 109
    4 George Selkirk 493 107
    5 Bill Dickey 423 107

    Enough said.
You're right. Just not even close to the way you think you are.

Batting Average is a statistic for Neanderthals. Runs and RBIs are team stats.
