I got a "like" from Heather. Awesome.

Agreed. But I wish the Reds had more of it.

    That was 1936, however 1930 had 32 guys with 100 RBIs, 2012 had 18

It's attitudes likes this why some fans hate advanced stats.

BA is a fine stat that has significant value. It's not as valuable as OBP or SLG, but both OBP and SLG contain BA as an essential element.

There absolutely are times when BA is more valuable in understanding a situation than OBP, it's not a useless stat that needs to be discarded like a VHS machine and a walkman.

Advanced stats are great additions to the stat library, but they shouldn't replace any stats that were already there.

The thing is, batting average doesn't tell you anything that OBP doesn't tell you better.

    Hits/At-Bats

Heck, it doesn't even accurately tell you what you think it tells you, the percentage of the time a batter gets a hit, because it uses the archaic "official at-bat" instead of plate appearances.

Hits/Plate Apperances makes more sense if you want to know how often someone gets a hit

    This chart explains why.

Simply put, a walk is only as good as a hit with the bases empty. With runners on, a hit is always worth more than a walk, sometimes worth 7 times more runs than a walk.

With runners on base, walks are good. Hits are better. BA tells you who gets more hits, OBP doesn't. BA is a better stat at evaluating who is more productive with runners on base than OBP.

I like OPS because batting average treats all hits the same. A homerun counts as much as a single.

The lower the average batting average is the less reliant on sequential offense a team becomes, and the more reliant they become on extra base power which comes hand and fans with walks and ks

Makes the game more boring IMO, therefore I like BA and he attempt to have a nice one
