I find it funny that Brian Kenny, often very critical of BP, is more supportive of the article than many here. He said on his show today that he agrees with 90% of what was said.

I enjoyed the article, took it as lighthearted and funny. Phillips is a lot of things, but he does love to have fun on the ball field.

I think Todd Frazier has swag.

I wonder if C Trent has swag?

I wonder what Brandon thinks of Carlos Gomez.

I'd prefer he'd focus more on baseball and less on swag.

I wish Brandon Phillips would shut the hell up so I can keep liking him.

Brandon isn't hitting too much in September. He can say whatever he wants, but I wish he was hotter at the plate.

All those routine grounders (the ones he can't turn into web gems) must bore the hell out of him.

Exactly. I used to love BP. Now, he's just becoming annoying.

Like Chad Johnson around 2007-08. With declining skills to boot.

Except his swag includes griping when part of the team and city he's supposed to be proud of and "swagging" about gets signed before him, he gripes about it being unfair in the local city magazine. Phillips lost all of my respect with that article. Swag is what 13 year olds talk about.

You all can continue to gather the pitchforks and torches but count me out on this one.

I'm just a grumpy old guy, but I saw this as lighthearted humor and an attempt to loosen up before a tight series.

He didn't complain about making less money than Votto or anyone else, he didn't complain about fat reporters to Dusty and he didn't complain that not enough fans were there or that they weren't loud enough.

I thought it was harmless and this old guy thought it was funny, especially when he said Hunter Spence has swag.

I think this season has shortened some senses of humor here at RZ.

    Since Sept 1: .205/.276/.261, 1 HR, 3 RBI.

I'm glad he has swag. He's playing like Juan Castro.

Re: Brandon Phillips: Baseball Needs More Swag

I have said it before and will say it again: Phillips is exactly right. Young people don't enjoy baseball as much as basketball and football because there is this whole "don't celebrate" rule. It turns young people away from the sports and it isn't good. That grown men get their feelings hurt and then want to fight over it because someone celebrated doing well is what is wrong with baseball.

I love this game and I always will. But baseball needs more flashy players to keep young people in the game. Baseball needs less "put your head down and run after you hit a baseball 475 feet" without the whole "we are going to throw a 95 MPH fastball at you or one of your teammates because we weren't able to get you out and you stared at the ball a little longer than I would have appreciated" stuff. Brandon is right.
