He has hardly played this year. They will miss Eithier more if he isn't back.

Still a potent lineup, but should the Reds advance, that makes LA a lot less scary.

It's a shame for any team, as well as baseball in general to lose a player of that level. But, who knows, what if he were able to pull a 'Kirk Gibson', coming off the bench to hit a HR. That would be an incredible moment as well, and I, for one would love to relive that great call by by Vinnie. "I don't believe what my eyes just saw!" (Doing off the top of my head so no guarantee for accuracy on the quote.)

Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola were doing the TV broadcast on NBC. Jack Buck had the call for CBS radio.

I have seen and heard Scully's call of Gibson's homer many times. I have never heard the radio broadcast.

I wasn't listening to the radio....but over the next many years after they played Buck's call more and to me is the better call, if not the greatest call ever.

Maybe, but as a teenager growing up in the 80's, the Voice of the World Series was (and always will be) Vin Scully on NBC in even-numbered years, and Al Michaels on ABC in odd-numbered years.

This is really interesting. I remember seeing it on tv extremely well; I was sitting in my wife's hospital room after the birth of our first child, so i remember this better than just about any WS game not involving the Reds. My memory 'hears' jack Buck's call, though. Probably because I've heard the replay so many times over the years.

Scully: "In a year that has been so improbable... the impossible has happened!"

Buck: "And the Dodgers have won the game, five to four; I don't believe what I just saw!"

Huh, I remember watching this game, but I did not realize that Canseco's first inning grand slam was the only time Oakland scored.

Ill never forget Jack Buck calling the 1990 Series. I still consider Scully has the greatest voice in MLB history. Many will cringe at this, but Marty is a close second on radio and the TV guys usually don't do much that I like. That includes our own Reds broadcasters.
