    Joe West crew will ump WC game, Jerry Layne crew for NLDS

    http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/20...vision-series/

    Our friend Joe West gets home plate and crew chief duties for the Reds-Pirates Wild Card game on Tuesday, with Dale Scott, Dan Iassogna, Rob Drake, Tim Timmons and Lance Barksdale on his crew.
    Jerry Layne will head up the Division series in St. Louis between the Cards and the Pirates-Reds winner, with Wally Bell, Sam Holbrook, Jim Joyce, Paul Nauert and Tony Randazzo.
    I don't think this has been posted yet, but ignore this if it has. Not a big fan of Joe West, but hopefully the umps don't stand out in the playoffs.

    Oh good lord. That's the best baseball can do putting old Country Joe West behind the plate for a one and out game. MLB is a strange creature with its buddy-buddy old school system. That blown call in Texas last night that could have been huge.

    What CB Bucknor and Angel Hernandez weren't available on speed dial?

    Not that West is anti-Reds he's just a lousy umpire.

    Geezcchhh MLB.

    West has a big,if not a inconsistent, strike zone. Expect a very low scoring game tonight. One run may be enough.

    Bucknor will be negatively affecting the Tigers-A's series. I think Hernandez may be off for the year.

    Joe West is terrible. If you are an umpire and every baseball fan knows your name - you're doing it wrong.

    Some info from the sports betting world regarding West;

    • Home team overall record 14-16
    • Home favorites of -160 or less are 4-9 with West behind the plate this year.
    • Current line is Pittsburgh -126

    So we have that going for us.

    Which is nice.
