That's 26 people. You have to let go of Corky.

How about we just have Cueto go 7, then Chapman for 2? Ok?

    Ok.

With Cueto's history of being injured, and the fact that he left a playoff game early already, why would Leake, our fifth starter, be the only other starter on the roster for tonight. What if Cueto goes down..again???

That's why Leake is on the roster. Simon is also an emergency innings eater. In a one game scenario, this is fine.

Yea, I would've probably left Logan off and put Miller on, just so you could pinch run for a catcher without worry.

OTOH, it probably doesn't matter much. Logan probably gets left off the roster for the next round. It's kind of nice to let him be on the WC roster (Same with Robinson)... Dusty is able to get his loyalty points in for this game.

I guess if Cueto gets in trouble and another starter has to bail him out, we are in deep doo doo anyhow. I have no problem with Leake being the backup starter or emergency long man if this thing goes 20 innings.. That said, I would've probably put another starter on before Logan if it was up to me...

Edit: Glad to see Duke in there, he's a useful arm, when used strictly as a loogy

I am not. It has been mentioned numerous times that it takes Bailey a long time to warm up. I don't see a situation where he would be needed. If Cueto has an injury problem you have a fully stocked pen that Dusty doesn't have to worry about overusing.

Just curious...what extra bat would you like to see them carry?

    Re: Reds' wildcard roster thread

I agree that I think Corky should have been in there.

He has a small sample size, but I think he has been swinging the bat pretty well lately.

9/29 He had 1 AB with a double and 2 RBIs

9/10 He had 2 AB with a double and 1 RBI

8/7 He had 2 AB with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs

Those are the last 3 times he has had ABs (according to ESPN), but I feel that he adds more versatility to this team than Hannahan.

Hannahan is just another lefty bat with no power and can play the IF. I think it can be argued that we have Izturis to fill in for any IFer that is hurt. Corky gives us a 3rd catcher and a decent power righty bat. Think about it, you have to have decent power to hit a double when you are Corky Miller. This way we can PR Billy more confidently too.

Yea, I agree. Leake as the "emergency guy" is good enough, when you have 8 relievers. Leake is probably there primarily to be a long guy in an extra inning marathon. I think if they were not confident in Cueto's health, Cueto would not be starting. Of course, nothing is guaranteed, but after seeing Cueto go 7 IP (?) vs the Mets, I feel good.

Plus, I believe Bailey is nursing a sore leg? That probably played a part in the decision making process.

The only extra bat I could see them carrying was Corky, not necessarily for Corky's bat. Having Corky on the roster would have allowed Mez to PH but still have an emergency catcher.

I was thinking more if Cueto was hurt before the game while warming up then you could go to Bailey. After the game starts you are better off going to guys in the bullpen who are used to getting ready in a hurry.

Who would you leave off though? I was thinking Hannahan or maybe Duke.

It's one game. I don't see anybody hesitating pulling the trigger in using Mesoraco to pinch hit. It won't be an issue IMO. With only 2 starters on the roster....all the extra slots are pretty much pointless. Simon and Duke can eat innings if need be. Leake too. Heck, Logan too. But with that many arms....nobody would need to go very long. Too much worrying about a 1 game roster IMO. The starters are the only ones who'll matter.
