    Re: Reds' wildcard roster thread

Back in May or June, if you told me that people would be arguing for Corky Miller's inclusion on a playoff roster for the Reds, I would have said you were nuts.

Having said that, I hope we see Corky in the next round.

    Re: Reds' wildcard roster thread

    And btw...from earlier this year....

Jack Hannahan, who started at third base on Tuesday, was the emergency catcher for the Reds.

"That's why I had him warming up the pitcher yesterday," Baker said. "He might be a second catcher."
    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

Probably Ondrusek. In a one game set he is only getting used in a blowout or extra innings affair and would be low on the priorities.

While advocating for Corky in a one game roster, I would not support him for the next round. Need for the starting pitchers trumps the third catcher need and flexibility.

Agreed. I think he adds a good power righty bat off the bench and can be PR if he does get on base too.

Heisey, our other righty bat, is usually saved to eventually replace Ludwick in LF, so he is normally saved. But come 7th or 8th inning I would think that Corky could be used for PH for P spot since other team will likely have LHP on the mound ready for Choo.

I would have brought Homer if I was making the decisions. Just in case.

    Re: Reds' wildcard roster thread

People wanting Corky on the 1 game playoff roster has 0 to do with Corky's skills and everything to do with it giving you the ability to PR for Hanigan/Mes without having to worry about something that happens to the backup. The Reds could have signed Jason LaRue today, and I would have wanted him on the roster for flexibility.

No way I would want it for a series, though. I would of had Corky on for Ondrusek. Duke is a nice guy to have on the roster because there's always a need for a situational lefty.

There is also 0 chance i'd ever want Corky PHing for anybody ever.

I guess we won't see Cingrani until 2014.

I read in something that they were hoping he would be back for the LDS or NLCS. He's in Arizona working out now.

I think Homer is not on the roster because there was zero chance they wanted to pitch him on 3 days rest for the first time in his life.

No one trusts Leake less than I do, but he is the right choice for this roster. Latos, Bailey and Arroyo are slightly worn out and not likely to be effective. They'll be more effective later this week if and when it comes to that. Leake has also been pretty murderous against the Pirates this year.

Duke was also drafted by the Pirates and spent five years on the major league team. It's a stretch, but maybe he's on the roster because he knows the hitters and the park. Either that or he's a sweet-talking spy.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

Pretty much why I said the pickings were slim, so I guess there wasn't much else to choose from
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Leake is there for an emergency AND because he's a viable threat with the bat and running the bases.
