From WIKI;
Hatteberg currently serves as a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations for the Oakland Athletics.[10] Starting with the 2012 season, Hatteberg has substituted for Ray Fosse as the Oakland A's color commentator on TV broadcasts for a number of games.[11]
As far as eagerness no clue, never heard anything.
Yes, he works for the A's. I check on his employment status every few months.
I didn't mean that he was eager to manage per se (although I seem to remember him being vocal about it in his playing days?) I meant more eager about baseball in general and not a worn-out, weathered guy. Which is what I expect the Reds to get.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

So Derrick Robinson is only one currently on team? How many teams do not have a speedy light hitting player on the bench. Is that not exactly the type of player you want on bench. Who should be on the bench? Young guys who do not know how to handle the bat?
You can blame dusty for how he handles the game if you want. But his fingerprint is not on the roster at all and the roster certainly does not scream of a team playing small ball.

I'm hoping beyond hope that Scott gets the itch to either coach (batting) or manage...Not that he's sitting around...he helps run his camp & actually never sits...But I know one thing...the players would work their butts off, or find the bench...but he still would be very approachable...I don't think he would but a girl can dream...think he would be awesome...
My gut tells me it's going do come down to Price and LaRussa.
My gut is often wrong.
Well this thread just became a lot more relevant.

Tony LaRussa has no interest in returning as manager. the #Reds likely will stay in house w Jim Riiggleman as one of leading candidates.

3 top candidates to succeed Dusty Baker:
Bryan Price
Jim RigglemanPrice, 51, has been the Reds' pitching coach since October of 2009.
David BellRiggleman, 60, has been a minor-league manager in the Reds system each of the last two seasons.
Bell, 41, was the Cubs' third base coach last season, but was let go by Chicago along with manager Dale Sveum and the rest of his staff. Bell managed in the Reds' organization for four seasons, managing Louisville in 2012 and Double-A Carolina for three seasons before that
Wish we had that this year.
Choo is not anyone's idea of small ball, or even speedy.
I'd think every NL team's bench aims for a combination of 1-2 guys who are defensive replacements, 1-2 guys who are big bats, a catcher, and a guy who can "handle the bat" ie low strikeout, slap hitter.
Tossing out another name just for fun...
Mark McGwire would have some respect in the clubhouse, tough/fiery guy, knows hitting and has experience as hitting coach... connection to Walt in STL
