    Managerial Candidates

I've jumped on the dump Dusty bandwagon. As such, I am wondering who everyone thinks should be the next skipper of the mighty steamboat on the Ohio river. Over the past 25 years we've had the good (Sweet Lou, Davey), the bad (Boone, Narron) and the ugly (?) (I had to use the pun, don't know which manager was actually ugly).

There are in-house candidates (Price) and a couple of names I've heard league wide for vacancies (Matt Williams, Brad Ausmus). Who are the favorites of Redszone and why (realizing that the D-man is still under contract and it's unlikely they'll dump him unless Bob C. really wants it to happen).
    Where we gonna go?

    Point seems moot

    http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/201...-will-be-back/

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said in the immediate wake of the Reds’ elimination from the postseason that Reds manager Dusty Baker will be back.

Asked if there was any question about Baker returning, Jocketty said: “I don’t think so,” Jocketty said. “He’s signed for another year.”

I'd take Price. If he wants the gig, that is.

I'd also bring back Hatcher and Speier, but otherwise clean house.

I'm afraid dumping Dusty would lead to a mass exodus/rebuilding, and I'm nowhere near ready for that. Wouldn't be totally surprised to see him step down and Price replace him, but it would have to be totally voluntary.

Former Catchers seem to have a number of chances and many have actually had success (Torre, Scoscia, etc). I don't know if its the position or just shear luck though.

They are the largest group of ex players who manage for sure, I just don't want another Jerry Narron in house

I thought this was for manager, not hitting coach?

I am not sure who would be leaving. I know Choo is hitting FA, but who else? Perhaps you were talking about the coaching staff?

Three of the very best in the past and present (Sparky, Leyland, Maddon) never made it to MLB as a player, did they? I don't think playing performance has anything to do with the potential to be a good manager.

I don't see an exodus, but I do see a retooling of the team if Dusty leaves. I think Walt has wanted to build a different type of team, but was forced to build a Dusty team.

    Chapman to the rotation
More OBP guys, less small ball guys
More young cheap bullpen arms and bench players
