Tweeting while at work is unacceptable behavior? I applaud you if you've never done something similar at work. I'm guessing most here have done so. I just hope that you haven't, otherwise, I see that as a consistency issue.
The self-righteous huffing and puffing from fans goes overboard sometimes. This feels like another case of it.

It's unreasonable to expect that the starters for your team wouldn't be texting/tweeting during an actual game they're playing in!?!?
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner
It's not behavior I'd encourage, but it's no different than writing your phone number on a ball or note and sending it or your room key to a hot fan, which has been going on forever.
Aren't you the same guy who made a stink because someone compared the contracts of lay-folk like us and major leaguers? But apparently this workplace issue is apples and apples?
I don't mind people saying it's not a big deal to them. But I don't see comparable to a cubicle monkey doing it.
And since I never tweeted, I have no consistency issue.

So if I'm clear, are there some of you who if managing the Reds, don't tell BP to knock off the tweeting during games?

I'd tell him if he can get there 35% of the time, he can tweet from first base.

But have you ever made a phone call at work? Browsed the internet? Done anything that wasn't 100% having to do with your job? Same difference, really.
And yes, I made a big deal because there's a big difference as to whether someone can be legally fired because of what Phillips said at an at-will job and whether a contractor or employee subject to a strict, labor agreement can be terminated for such a thing. Unlike that situation, there's really no difference with a baseball player sneaking a peak at their Twitter account between innings and an employee sneaking one on their job. Unless it's impacting their work performance, it's not a big deal.
