    Ah, thanks.

I think it's 10 years in the majors, 5 with the same team, not 10 years of service time. If that's the case, he might have 10-5 rights.

Brandon is not a 10-5 guy. This year puts him at 9.022 in service time. He would not have 10-5 rights until after the 2014 season if he stayed with the Reds the entire season.

As johngalt noted, the key is, he doesn't have ten years of service time. He falls just short. If he's to be moved, this would be the off-season to do it. A good way through next season, he has to agree to a trade.

If you intend to move someone, right before he gets his 10 years in is typically a good time to do it. Makes it a heckuva lot easier.

Trade BP, use the money to re-sign Choo and presumably pick up some other piece they could use as well. Play Choo in CF, Ludwick in LF and Hamilton at 2B. He played lots of SS and some 2B in the minors.

I know it won't happen, but his minor league OBP was .350 and it sure would look nice having Hamilton, Choo and Votto in the 1-2-3 slots clogging up those bases for Bruce. How is that for offseason dreaming?

There's a reason Hamilton is in the OF. If he were an MLB infielder, he'd still be playing there.

the 5/10 Rule whereby players who have been with a club for 5 consecutive years and have been a major league player for 10 years cannot be traded without their consent.
That is from the wikia, so it has to be taken with a grain of salt, but unless someone has something from MLB or elsewhere that says it is 10 full years or greater service time, I think it is pretty clear Brandon would have 10/5 rights by now.I really think it's 10 years with service time, not 10.000 years or greater service time.

    MLB Service Time

A player earns Major League service time for each day he spends on the active (25-man) roster or on the Major League 15-day or 60-day disabled lists. A player also continues to earn service time while serving any disciplinary suspension or serving in the military.[1]
Under the CBA, 1 year of service is defined as 172 days. A player may earn up to 172 days of Major League service during a championship season (regular season), which generally lasts 183 calendar days. If a player is sent to the minor leagues on optional assignment for a total of 20 days or less during a season, he receives service time for the entire season.

This is a conservative ownership group annoyed with BP's behavior, particularly the rant against the beat reporter.

It was said Bob C was upset with Dusty's handling of that situation, so it was definitely on ownership's screen.

It's likely nothing to do with Guerrero or OBP or even the contract IMO.
I'm agreeing with you. If the after shocks are getting a Guerrero, another guy with a better OBP or a trimmed salary for needs elsewhere, then it may be a win for a variety of reasons.

    So yeah...no.
Is Boston paying anything on Crawfords contract from the deal last year?

Re: Paul Daugherty says Brandon Phillips is very available

I don't believe for a second that Brandon Phillips' personality has anything to do with the alleged willingness to trade him. Phillips has always been who he is. There's really no surprises with him. You know he's outspoken and emotional. Always been that way. Nothing changed. The Reds knew who he was last offseason when they signed him.

If they're going to trade him, it's more because of money. Even then, he's currently worth the money they're paying him. But at the same time, he probably won't be worth that money for too much longer so if you're doing to trade him, do it before his production suffers so much you can't find anyone to take it.
