However, the second case he is calling out management and his own teammates. I can see Bob not liking that at all. Fan favorite or not, you cannot bite the hand that feeds you.

I love BP and would hate to see him go, but if he has caused a rift in the clubhouse and pisse.d Bob off, then hopefully we can get some major league talent for him. I would assume we target one of the losers of the 3 team race for Cano (Dodgers, Yankess, Rangers).
Calling out a reporter? Don't you think that's understating BP's verbal assault towards C. Trent just a little?

I think this has everything to do with garnering funds for Choo and other arb eligible players. The other noise surrounding Brandon just helps make the decision a little easier in the front office's minds.

BP would be more valuable if he didn't insist on playing while he's injured. His performance suffers quite a bit, IMO.

I agree with that. If he's bvck with the Reds next season, and I expect him to be,he needs to be rested much more often. At least once every 7 to 10 days.

I was talking about what he is like in the clubhouse etc., how he is with the others on the team etc. I wasn't referring to charity work. And, really, how much can we really know about that? My point was, no matter what we think we know about a player, we really don't know much of anything. I would prefer to focus on the on-field stuff, myself. But thanks for lumping me in with whatever you lumped me in with, I guess.

Gonna have to give somebody away to get that contract off your hands
And as soon as the Reds move Phiillips, let the complaining begin that we only have "two legitimate hitters' (Bruce and Votto)
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!

That's how it is now, with Phillips.

    Not sure about that.
Hypothetically.. if the Reds trade Phillips, do you give Choo 5 years/100 million? I'm not sure I do. I would have to think about it.

    That's my point.
Phillips 1st half performance helped keep the team in contention, I know people like to shrug off the 100+ RBI, but the pendelum has swung the other way. RBI is not THE stat, but they aren't worthless either.

If Phillips is swapped out with Henry Rodriguez, there's going to be a significant dropoff in runs scored. Perhaps even if he's swapped out with A Guerero..

He hit in the 4 hole the majority of the season and set out to get 100 RBI's and he did. If BP is in the 2 or 5 hole next year, I think he has a good year. We wouldn't be asking him to do something he is not accustomed to doing. Plus I don't think it sends a good message to the rest of the team either. You sign a long term contract and have a down 1/2 season...bam...you're gone....I don't like it!!!
I agree with this fine post. I think reports of Phillips' demise as a player are greatly exaggerated.

He does tend to play hurt, to come back from injuries before he's ready, and he should get more rest now. But I see another good season or two from him.

It doesn't justify his huge contract, though, it may be that the Reds went a bit too far signing BP. But I have no problem holding on to him as a player I think he'll rebound.

Which is why, if he's on the block, I think it's orders from the top which did not necessarily like Brandon's behavior this season.

Agreed. But as they say, best to market a year too early than a year too late.

And the 10-5 thing is huge.

I really like Either's skillset (could play CF next year for the Reds, if needed).

However, when I look at Either's contract.. wow.. Might as well sign Choo if you are going to pay that much. The guy is seriously overpayed. LA would have to kick in some money for it to make sense.

Re: Paul Daugherty says Brandon Phillips is very available

I agree that BP's demise is being overstated. But if they want to deal him this is the time - age, 10/5, etc. After this winter its gets a lot more complicated contract wise, and a lot less likely anything really worth while can be extracted from a deal. It almost requires a companion deal of some kind to acquire a second baseman, too. HRod or Negron sure won't cut it.

And if it is done to free money for Choo I am leery. LT contracts to guys already past 30 is being shown time and again to be unwise. 4 years I could live with but 5 or more and I don't see where it helps. Yeah, more offense for now, but a lot more money down the road, too.

Good lord no, if people think BPO talks too much, Kemp is not who you want to replace that. Not to mention dude cant stay healthy at all. Nick massett and Bill Bray were heard talking about Kemp, saying "man, is he ever not hurt?"

And I don't think he'd insist on playing hurt (or the manager allowing it) if there was a more viable replacement for him than Izturis or HRod.
Chapman to the rotation!!!! Do it already!!!!
