Poll: Do you want BP to be traded?

    Answer yes or no.

Then comment with what trade you would like to see happen. Maybe in this format too:

    1.) Dream Trade Scenario

    2.) Possible Trade Scenario

    3.) Realistic Trade Scenario

EDIT: I made the mistake of making the results hidden and it appears that that cannot be changed. I will update the results periodically throughout the thread. Moderators can view results too.

I can't respond to this poll. I would need more information about what type of trade before being able to.

Re: Poll: Do you want BP to be traded?

I don't want him traded because the Reds don't have a 2B to replace him, and getting one who is as good defensively will cost close to what they're paying him.

However, if the Reds can get good value for Phillips, and a decent fielding 2B back in the trade, then I wouldn't be upset.

I want to see an improved roster next season. If that happens by trading Brandon Phillips then awesome. If that happens by keeping Brandon Phillips then still awesome.

Voted "no." I don't think it's likely we'll get back similar or greater value for BP. That said, the usual qualifications apply: "in the right trade, trade anyone" etc.

Re: Poll: Do you want BP to be traded?

I said a tenative "Yes". I wouldn't give him away by any means. I would want a decent return. I am concerned about his durability ad skill deteriation going forward though. If I could get out from under the contract and pick up a couple of controlable guys who can fill spots for 4 or 5 years. Easier said than done. It won't be the end of the world by any menas though to hold onto him if their isn't a deal that makes roster sense as well as financial sense. No firesales.

I want him to be a great player for the huge price he now costs.

Re: Poll: Do you want BP to be traded?

Because I think there's little chance of him playing to his contract, and every dollar is important, if there is a deal out there for salary relief and a modest return, then I'd support it.

Re: Poll: Do you want BP to be traded?

I voted yes, but only in a scenario that landed us another 2B.

My ideal scenario is something like:

Phillips to LA for Ethier & Paco Rodriguez
Ethier, Leake and Travieso to TEX for Profar

I don't really have a read on what's realistic, though I realize I'm probably WAY undervaluing Profar.

I actually think it's highly unlikely we trade him because there are simply no good in house options at 2B and it's unlikely he lands us a notable upgrade somewhere else.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

IMO a better question would be "If Brandon Phillips had done to you what he did to Bob Castellini would you want him to be traded?"

"Want" is a very strong word.

I'd describe my feelings on it as being "not opposed."

You mean barely have a .700 OPS?

    Yes, worthy of a trade.

Unless Profar has mechanical issues with his approach at the plate that the Reds think they can solve, I'm not sure I'd say you are undervaluing him.

I'd say as someone who had alot of time in the big leagues in 2013, a little time in 2012... he's yet to prove himself consistently on the offense... you are willing to wager a bit too much. His offense is bout on par with Cozart, and less than DDBP. Defense might be an upgrade, youth is nice... but offense is questionable.

I don't see a trade scenario with DDBP where the Reds come ahead. They'd have to package something more valuable to make it worth considering, and if the Reds want to maintain or improve their success, I'd focus less on trading BP, more on improving outfield, and perhaps even bringing more pop to the bench.
