Well, If it goes 4 games the celebration will be in STL, regardless who wins those 4 games.

Gee, I didn't realize you had read an article that you now cannot find, but I'd say that you committed statistical abuse with that attempted correlation.

10 years in the show is WELL above average. Number of teams played for is irrelevant.

Number of years in the show doesn't make you above average. How you play while in the show makes you above average. If he was so good 1 of the 5 teams he played for woulda kept him around longer. I wish life had your standards!

What's the average lifespan of an MLB career? 5-6 years tops? Jonny has nearly doubled that. That's significant.

He's played well enough to stick around longer the majority of other players who've played in MLB. That's pretty good...or above average.

If he was so bad, the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and/or 5th teams wouldn't have given him money to play for them and he wouldn't be suiting up for a World Series shot tomorrow.

It does. You get what you earn and Jonny has earned a longer than average Major League career.

Yes, Gomes has been around longer than the "average" career. That does not make him an above average baseball player tho. With that logic you're saying that Drew Stubbs is above average...I think many on here would disagree with that. Above average players don't consistantly come off the bench during the prime of their careers. I like Gomes, I think he is a solid player. But IMHO he is not an above average player.

I might agree with someone calling Gomes an above average role player. Like a left handed reliever or a position player that's a defensive specialist. If they're good in that role they can stick around. But, an above average player and an above average role player aren't the same thing.

Would love to see the current group of Red Sox win a World Series at Fenway. Make a racket to wake up all the old ghosts there.

I think Gomes said it hasn't happened since 1918.

That prompted me to look up the Reds. We have not clinched a World Series in Cincinnati since 1940.

Game 7 Tuesday, October 8, 1940 at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, Ohio[/B]
    Team 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
    Detroit 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 7 0
    Cincinnati 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 X 2 7 1
WP: Paul Derringer (2–1) LP: Bobo Newsom (2–1)
