Damn hippy.
This is the time. The real Reds organization is back.
So what are the odds someone at the announcement asks this question:
Coach Price you quit in Arizona as pitching coach because they fired the manager yet here you not only stayed but took the job of manager, do you think the Reds were correct to fire Dusty?
They fired the hitting coach -his name was Dusty Baker. Jacoby held the job but Dusty did the day to day work. He talked hitting all the time and probably had more pull in that role than Jacoby ever did.

Right hire, IMO. Smart guy with great people skills. Will be interesting to see who's on the staff. I imagine we'll see Riggleman as the bench coach (if he wants it), Berry, Jenkins as pitching coach. I imagine he'll get to bring in some of his own choosing, too.
Will also be fascinating to see if this affects how Jocketty constructs the roster.

I came around to accepting that Riggleman would have been fine. Price was my first choice, but I wasn't going to hold his resignation from the Nats against him. Ironically, yesterday, I was reading about Don Mattingly's thoughts about being on a one year deal and the effect it had on his abilities within the clubhouse (he had an option, but the Dodgers weren't picking it up - apparently it vested when LA won the first round of play-offs). In fact, I wondered whether Mattingly might be an option here if they didn't hire Price. That said, I would have been fine with Riggleman, but I'm glad we're hiring price.

Happy with the Price hire - I think it's probably the best Reds managerial hire since Davey 20 years ago. I also suspect he'll work alongside Jocketty with roster construction far better than Dusty would have.
The big key is going to be hitting coach. Get a guy in here that fits what the organization needs and will mesh with the rest of the staff. Brook Jacoby certainly isn't the answer.

The Price is right the move. He did a great job with the pitching staff and I think he held them accountabe for what they did out on the mound. That's more than the previous manager who seemed to ignore anything going on with the everyday players. None of us know for sure how good a manager Price will be. But I do think this is the right choice at the time. This is just the first move in what will be a very interesting winter for the Reds.

There always seemed to be some friction between Dusty and Jocketty. I hope and believe Jocketty and Price will work better together at roster construction.
I do not think Jacoby will be back. One of the points that brought about Dusty's firing was that he didn't want to change hitting coaches. At least that was one thing reported. I'm not sure how big of a difference a hitting coach can be but its time for a change and maybe someone different can help out.

Just on a whim, I decided to look back at Price's minor league career to see who he played with early in his career. One that jumped out at me was Dante Bichette, who happens to be the Rockies' current hitting coach. Looking at a list of the current MLB hitting coaches, I saw another minor league teammate, Ty Van Burkleo, is the hitting coach for the Indians. Of course, none of this means anything.
As much as some players spoke highly of Brook Jacoby, I think it's time for new blood there.
