“More than anything, it’s strike zone command. It’s understanding what a good pitch looks like and being able to put a good pass on it and put ball on the barrel with frequency. I don’t know if that’s a philosophy. That’s trying to get back to the fundamentals of baseball.

Walt Hriniak - Only for the novelty of seeing an entire lineup doing one-handed helicopter swings.

Yeah they demoted Murphy to 1B coach this year in favor of Mottola. Then they fired both of them, and Murphy then retired.

Maybe a good job would make him reconsider.

I like the 2nd part from that link that you didn't quote.

“I think we’re capable of doing that. We have guys who are capable, guys who are good athletes, guys who have had terrific years who still have a lot left to give. We just have to cultivate that into a balanced approached (Fay typo, of course).”

Yea I liked that too, it's just such a short article that I didn't want to quote too much.

Am I the only one who felt like Price had a number of comments that were pretty clearly in support of Votto?
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I didn't read anything negative toward Votto in his words.

One reason could be that pitching coaches are visible. We see them going out to the mound to talk to pitchers, this gives them screen time and notoriety. We never see a hitting coach go out to T Frazier after he swings at a first pitch in the dirt to give him stategy.

Charlie Lau and Ted Kluzewski for two. Rudy Jaramillo has a lot of adherents, too, maybe as the best today.

99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...
