That is assuming he disclosed the injury to the team...

That's my guess as well. But, let's ignore the injuries and just assume he's a liability on this team, and unload him due to his age, so that we can turn around and sign the older Choo to a much larger deal.

    Makes sense

So when did he hurt his hand? Could this possibly explain why he was great for two months and then garbage all the way through October? I like that explanation a lot more than, "he's washed up".

I think this hand thing is potentially good news. If he has a fixable injury, BP could be back to his more productive self.

It's better than being over the hill or "done". Or on the downside with a bloated contract.

Hope BP gets a good report and he's back to full strength.

Not that I disagree with you but you have to consider an injury when evaluating the player. If it's a broken hand, can he recover from that? Is that going to affect him in the future? Even if he comes back from that 100%, will he do better than his career norms of .279/.320/.429? Rare is the player who improves as he gets older.

BTW, BP is 2 years older than Choo.

I think hoping a .735 hitter will bounce back from a .700 season is tilting at all kinds of windmills.

His entire Cincinnati career ranges from .750-.816. At what point does it become a down year?

It wasn't even a down year, he was killing it until he got hit. Ever since then he numbers were down.

I guess I have to point out that Choo is not older.

Go ahead and try to weasel out of that claim if you like.

But did his numbers drop because he got hit or was it regression to the mean?

Tired of bp playing through injury to the detriment of his bat.

I guess that probably depends on who you ask. I know he probably wasn't going to keep up that pace, but I also don't think that he woulda finished as bad as he did also. What he eventually fell to was waaaay past his mean.

Agree, but the downgrade to Izturis and Valdez the year before wasn't exactly appealing. Walt needs to work on a better bench for 2014 -that's for sure.

BP seems to be getting more frail as he ages which is concerning. Reds should count on him for 130-135 starts assuming he is back in 2014 - unless he finds that Big Papi magic age-machine potion...
