    Re: Choo

I got no sympy for Texas, but I don't like to see Choo play so poorly as he's a good guy and even indicated the contract has weighed on him mentally. Hope he turns it around.

Now junkhead on the other hand, I'll make jokes about him till the end of time.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

I still think Hamilton needs another year in AAA and that we should have stuck with Choo for another year.

More like what is he consuming haha

In seriousness, not sure how anyone can conclude he needs to be in AAA. He's an above average offensive player, statistically, and is on pace for nearly 6 WAR. He absolutely has proven he belongs on this level.

    Re: Choo

Hamilton has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt he belongs in the big leagues. It's looking more and more like the Reds made the right decison about Choo. He has had an injury riddled season to this point. He may still have a couple more good seasons in him but we are far better off with Hamilton than paying that huge salary to Choo and him likely ot be on the DL more and more the older he becomes.

    - Hamilton belongs in Cincy CF...no way you can 2nd guess that decision at this point.
    - It would have been great to keep Shoo for LF for 2 years to stopgap for Winker, etc..

In the end...none of it would have been a great idea over 7 more years which is what Choo got in the open market.

I agree with that. I also think some people post something in seriousness and when they are proven to be well uh.....not so smart they then say they were kidding.

Hamilton is one of the most exciting players to watch in baseball right now. Every at-bat. Also, playing the best CF defense in the league right now.

Choo is headed for the DL, comes with a big contract, is older, slower, and a defensive liability in CF.

I would challenge anyone, even out of jest, to come up with one reason that anyone could possibly have to choo choo choose Choo over Hamilton at this point. Now... if you go back to the offseason... quite a few wanted to keep Choo, or at least find a 1 year stop gap to give Hamilton more time at AAA. But now? Who on earth would pick Choo over Hamilton?

    Re: Choo

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/shin-...s-lost-season/

Back in December, after Choo signed, Jeff Sullivan wrote about Choo’s platoon split. This has long been known about Choo. Over the course of his career, Choo has been Ryan Braun (148 wRC+) against right-handed pitchers and Gregor Blanco (92 wRC+) against left-handed pitchers. That is a pretty drastic difference. The Rangers knew Choo couldn’t hit lefties. The Rangers knew Choo couldn’t play the outfield very well. The Rangers knew Choo’s speed would soon begin to decline as he descended into his thirties. Yet the Rangers gave Choo $130 million on his ability to hit right-handed pitching as well as any player in baseball.

Shin-Soo Choo still isn’t hitting left-handed pitching. That hasn’t changed. Something else has. His wRC+ against righties is 102. Choo signed a mega contract based on his ability to do one thing extremely well and he hasn’t done that one thing all year. Therefore, he’s been essentially valueless all year.
If some aren't happy about the Reds' situation, at least be happy we're not in the Rangers' situation. Imagine if we ponied up the cash to keep Choo...

We're 5.5 out from first and 3.5 back in the WC. Still plenty of hope!
