Reds 90+ win / postseason 3 of last 4 years

Are we contenders? Should we move on from Walt? All of these threads and some people seem to forget the Reds have been doing pretty good lately.

Reds 90+ win / postseason 3 of last 4 years...

See no reason why this won't continue for the next four years.

I remember when the Reds got off to their incredible start back in 1990 and when the only real outlet for any sports fans was talk radio, the vast majority of discussion on WLW during this hot start were callers complaining about how horrible of a color commentator Tom Hume was.

Reds fans are a different breed sometimes.

Falling on your face in each of those three playoff appearances leaves a bitter taste in you mouth.

Yeah, Johnny's right - this has been one of the better 4 year periods in team history after the BRM and 38-41 Reds. But those teams have rings. Unless they can take a pennant, at the least, these years will just be a big disappointing 'what coulda been'.

The current symmetry between the Reds and Bengals is rather bizarre. Just sayin'.

I rather be happy to be in the hunt until october and lose in the first round than watch a team that fights for a high draft pick or to get a winning season (like most years since I´m alive)

of course it is sad to lose the way we did in the postseason, but it´s still great to watch a team with guys like votto, bruce and one of the best rotations in a reds uniform!

Success in the postseason comes down to having 1-2 starting pitchers that are peaking at the right time. If you put yourself in position enough, sooner or later if will happen.

True. But not near as bitter as the taste that still lingers in my mouth from 1996-2009.

The 2000's were unwatchable. I love being able to tune in every day over the summer knowing we are going to win a lot more than lose.

    Summer is a looooooooooooooong time.

    So true.

Of all of the Atlanta Braves' Division Titles, they have just one World Series win to show for it.

REDS' fans were spoiled by the Big Red Machine/Sparky combination and the Davis/Larkin/Rijo/NastyBoys/Piniella combination. What this current group of REDS lacked was a quality Manager to take them over the top. Now that Dusty Baker is gone, there's nothing holding this group back from advancing in the playoffs.

except for what's likely to be a bottom tier offense and barring some breakout years and age regression, the worst offense the Reds have had in this period. I know the Braves won for years based on the strength of their pitching, but only in 1995 and 2001 (looking at 1991-2002) not in the front half of the NL in runs scored. in most of those years, they were 4th.

because Price already showed that he´s a better manager and a postseason winner

I would hope to see Price and the Reds succeed, but I don´t know why lots of reds fans expect more from an unproven guy that he can likely handle... (especially in the first season)

Re: Reds 90+ win / postseason 3 of last 4 years

2012 featured an all time collapse, and last year we saw a 3rd place team get into a wildcard only on a new technicality, and then fall flat on their faces against the Pirates. Only in 2010 have I felt something other than bitter disappointment.

YES, it is more fun playing meaningful ball down the stretch, as opposed to what we witnessed from 2000-2009, but at the end of the day, this team is still on year 19 of a playoff series win drought. For a franchise of this caliber and history, that seems pretty unacceptable.

Ultimately, when you are bad, you want to be better. When you are better, you want to be the best. And once you are the best, you take a little time to celebrate, buy the championship gear, and then figure out how to do it all over again.
