    Re: Homer Bailey

There's no way the Reds should consider trading Bailey now, unless a team wants to greatly overpay for him with top prospects. Reds should hold on to Bailey and then trade him in July if it looks like they're out of the race. Or, hopefully Bailey will have a great year, lead us to the World Series ... and at least we'll get a draft pick if he leaves. Better than the old days when a team would get nothing.

But right now, no need for the Reds to do anything. Bailey could be headed for a huge year.

I have said before that I think the reason the money wasn't there for Choo is because that was a bad contract & because I believe the Reds are planning on using part of that money to extend both Latos & Bailey not because the Reds are maxed out financially.

Many think it will only be one of the two but I think it will be both with possibly Cueto being the odd man out (due to being injury prone makes him less valuable than Latos or Bailey).

BTW if they extend Homer & Latos then I think there is a decent chance Cueto gets traded before his final season for a big bat. Stephenson takes his or Leak's spot in the rotation depending on who they decide to move between Cueto & Leake. My guess is it will be Cueto. He'll bring back a bigger haul than Leake.

You cannot resign a player who does not wish to be here. Face it, Bailey is gone after this season. The question is, can we win it all this season? If we can, keep him. If not, let him go now for a decent 3rd baseman or Shortstop. If we wait til August, we will get little in return. Wait til October, we get a guess in the draft.

Look @ my post 2 post up & click on the link. It might clear some things up for you a bit on whether Bailey wants to be here & whether or not we can sign him.

What do you expect him to say? "I hate Cincinnati and it's people"? "I hate management"? We heard the same things out of Choo's mouth and look where he ended up. Bailey is a big city guy and will want big money to play ball. I would love to see him stay, but we cannot afford him and Latos on the same roster. We have too many other holes to fill than to give half of our budget to 4 guys.

Choo & Bailey situations are totally different. Walt never sounded optimistic about re signing Choo, he comes across as much more optimistic about extending Bailey. I have very little doubt we will extend both Bailey & Latos. And we will have to agree to disagree about whether we can afford both, I believe we in fact can & will.

Basically I feel the money is there for 2 of the 3 between Choo, Latos & Bailey. Walt decided to go with Latos & Bailey.

Which is the right call IMO.

If we had a decent offense, I would agree. But without Choo, we are bad.

I put our chances of re-signing Bailey at about 2 percent.

Maybe not bad, but I agree, Choo and Latos would be better than Latos and Bailey

Doesn't look like we are close at this point. Nothing really new there, but still not a good thing to see.

I think the Reds should come up with a decent offer, and offer it to both Bailey and Latos, and see if one will accept, and then move forward from there with more certainty on their future payroll obligations.

If you could sign both of these pitchers for a period of around 5 years with a total payroll hit between $30-$35M, that is about as good as your could reasonably hope if you are the Reds.

Actually, I think you were right the first time. If a player is traded in his walk year, there is no QO penalty. His FA is unencumbered by a draft pick.

Time to cut Loose Homer. His cost is going higher and higher for a sub .500 pitcher

I would rather send Homer off to Tampa and get David Price. Who has said to me personally. He will goto Atlanta, Cinicinnati or St. Louis.
